Red Dead Redemption 2 looks better than ever with this graphics mod
https://www.dsogaming.com/pc-performance-analyses/red-dead-redemption-2-looks-better-than-ever-with-this-graphics-mod/
In August 2022, we informed you about the Visual Redemption Project for Red Dead Redemption 2. And today, we are happy to report that a new version of it is available for download.
Currently this mod overhauls various weathers, improves shadow distance in each weather, reduces the intensity of heat haze, fixes bloom render on lights, improves water reflections, fixes moon positioning and much more.
Visual Redemption also comes with an Optional Add-On that retains the Vanilla atmosphere and lighting, but still improves shadows and other small things. Additionally, the mod supports the RedM multiplayer client.

Justice for melee weapons: a Cyberpunk 2077 modder has rectified the game's biggest oversight for stealth play
https://www.pcgamer.com/justice-for-melee-weapons-a-cyberpunk-2077-modder-has-rectified-the-games-biggest-oversight-for-stealth-play/
I was doing great at the start of a Cyberpunk 2077 mission in the badlands last night, sneaking into a ramshackle warehouse fortress from a rear staircase to take out the guard in the security room with a silent neck snap. It all went to hell a few minutes later when I accidentally threw a grenade at a goon instead of tagging him with my Kiroshi optics, but, look, these things happen. I'd rather focus on the first few minutes of exciting tension as I snuck around, quietly eliminating patrolling enemies after distracting them with hacked floodlights and vending machines. I've had fun every time I take the stealth approach in Cyberpunk, but the options for stealth kills are bafflingly limited. Why am I walking around with a monowire—basically a high-tech garrote—if I can't use it to choke someone out?
Despite quite a few perks dedicated to stealthy play, the only way to perform a stealth takedown in Cyberpunk is to creep up behind an enemy and grab them unarmed. That presents the option to snap their neck or choke them unconscious… and nothing else. Just the same animation every time.
It sure seems like we should be able to take advantage of our cyberware to thonk enemies with a gorilla fist, choke them with the monowire or stab 'em in the brain with a mantis blade. Or, y'know, get up close and personal with a knife or katana in hand without breaking stealth. But CD Projekt never got around to adding stealth melee finishers with either cyberware or weapons.
The Stealth Finishers mod, just updated for Cyberpunk 2.0, rectifies both limitations, adding stealth takedowns with melee weapons and cyberware. The mod lets you perform a stealth kill with a melee weapon as soon as you sneak up behind an enemy, but also preserves the option to grapple them if you prefer.

Dark Souls 3 overhaul mod, Ominous Wish, gets new trailer
https://www.dsogaming.com/pc-performance-analyses/dark-souls-3-overhaul-mod-ominous-wish-gets-new-trailer/
Team Project Eclipse has released a new trailer for a brand new overhaul mod for Dark Souls 3, called Ominous Wish. This mod promises to bring tweaks and improvements to the game’s maps, textures, model modifications, scenery and lighting.
Unfortunately, there is currently no ETA on when this overhaul mod will come out. Nevertheless, the following video will give you an idea of what you can expect from it.

The same modder who fixed Starfield's inventory has now sorted out the rest of the UI
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-same-modder-who-fixed-starfields-inventory-has-now-sorted-out-the-rest-of-the-ui/
Starfield modder m8r98a4f2 was among the early heroes for Bethesda's space-em-up, with a mod called StarUI Inventory that tackles one of the game's biggest pain points. Star UI turns your unwieldy bags of stuff into a lovely clean list that can be sorted by type, weight, and value: which may not sound like much, but will save you enormous amounts of time faffing with the default option trying to find things.
Having tackled that nightmare, m8r98a4f2 is back to tackle another headache: well, a whole bunch of 'em. The grand sequel to their feat is StarUI HUD, which overhauls the existing UI and gives you control over HUD widgets, an updated loot list, and improved item cards with stats like DPS and the value/weight ratio.
>> There's a slightly over 3 minutes long video of the mod.

Cyberpunk 2077 director says studio's switch from REDengine to Unreal Engine 5 'isn't starting from scratch'

In a recent interview with Cyberpunk 2077 director Gabe Amatangelo, I asked about that transition to UE5, (...)
"It isn't starting from scratch," Amatangelo said. "A lot of times when you build these things, like Ray Reconstruction, there are a lot of methodologies you can apply to new engines. Learnings and the strategy of setting up the architecture. And when you look at the things that Unreal does well, the things that REDengine does well—there are some similarities and some gaps, but the brilliant engineers are like 'with all the stuff that we know you crazy creatives want to do in the future, there's less of a delta here. Let's strategically shift to [Unreal Engine 5]'."

https://www.pcgamer.com/if-the-phrase-open-world-survival-shopkeeping-game-intrigues-you-let-saleblazers-take-over-your-weekend/
This isn't quite the way I imagined an early access game about being a shopkeeper would begin, but long before I rang up my first customer threw rocks at cardboard cutouts of cowboys, dodged lasers fired by hippo statues, and survived a shootout with a crowd of evil thugs sent after me by a ruthless corporate overlord.

https://www.pcgamer.com/warzone-2s-coolest-gun-ever-is-a-low-framerate-recreation-of-a-super-classic-we-all-know-and-love/
There's been an awful lot of sometimes-cool, sometimes-odd crossovers in Call of Duty: Warzone 2—corrupt superheroes, Nicki Minaj, a bulletproof dog named Merlin who rides around on your belt—but this is my favorite: The super-shotgun from Doom 2, which will be added to the game as part of the Doom bundle that's coming in October.

Willy Wonka's chocolate factory is already a rather sinister affair, but Twisted Tower, revealed at this year's Realms Deep showcase, is determined to take that concept and dial it up a few more notches. It's a game that looks to mash together a generous helping of BioShock's 1920s art deco setting with Roald Dahl's eerie novel, swapping out confectionery for toys and a disturbingly deadly game show.

Fatshark has posted a deep dive into the talent trees in advance of the class overhaul coming on October 4, and they include some pretty neat powers. 10 years after launch, one player has nabbed every one of Final Fantasy 14's 2,751 achievements
https://www.pcgamer.com/10-years-after-launch-one-player-has-nabbed-every-one-of-final-fantasy-14s-2751-achievements/
Final Fantasy 14 has accumulated an awful lot of achievements in its decade of life: 2,751 of them to be exact. Some of them are simple enough—just play through the story, level up some classes, do an event or two—while others require hundreds of hours or even years to earn. Earning all of them would take some serious time and dedication, which would explain why nobody has ever managed to reach 100% achievement completion. Until now, that is.

We're all far too familiar with the feeling of sheer desperation when waiting for information on our favourite upcoming game. I've been guilty of it, too—combing through trailers frame-by-frame, and devouring every Discord and Reddit theory I can find. Something I can't say I've done is determine that the moon (yes, the actual real-life moon) is pivotal to an upcoming reveal. You know who can say that, though? I'm seldom seeing some brief graphical corruption when exiting from full screen or booting the system from sleep.

I wonder if that's memory corruption or just some driver/system glitch? I want to be able to resell this 6700XT... I remember long ago a GTX 470 died on me from memory corruption but the warning glitches happened on stressing the GPU, not just everyday usage...

Well, that sucks.

Is there any software you could use to test GPU memory, like MemTest does for the system RAM?

Heads up.

Fanatical has a new Retro bundle - it consists of a choice of about 40 or so games split between 1, 5 and 10 game bundles.

I added about 36 games in the bundle and used my 5% discount coupon I had to make the total of $18.

So about $0.50 per game or around that much, damn a good deal.

Some of these games I recognize cause I saw them in retro game videos (like AVGN), on NintendoPower or another gaming magazine years ago or I played them through emulation in my early years lol.

Take a look at this first gameplay video for Brutal Quake 2
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/take-a-look-at-this-first-gameplay-video-for-brutal-quake-2/
Modder ‘SGtMarkIV’, creator of Brutal Doom, has shared a gameplay video, showcasing… wait for it… Brutal Quake 2. SGtMarkIV plans to release this project after the release of Brutal Doom V22.
Going into more details, this is a mod in GZDoom and Zandronum that reads the original files of Quake 2. So, what you are about to see is in the GZDoom/Zandronum Engines, and not in the Quake 2 Engine.
Brutal Quake 2 will feature new maps, tweaked gunplay, and some new effects. And, to be honest, it looks really cool. When it comes out, the mod will obviously require a copy of Quake 2, otherwise it won’t work.

This modder made such a great change to Starfield's food it's actually making me hungry
https://www.pcgamer.com/this-modder-made-such-a-great-change-to-starfields-food-its-actually-making-me-hungry/
I get the concept behind the way Bethesda designed Starfield's food items. In the year 2330, humanity has become a spacefaring species, blasting across the galaxy in spaceships—and just as people are sealed inside spacesuits for protection, food is kept inside clear little plastic containers.
But there's something unsatisfying about seeing a tasty chicken tikka, some crispy alien nuggets, or even plain old meatloaf sitting in a drab, rectangular plastic container. Maybe it's from my experiences of eating out of plastic containers in real life—lukewarm leftovers, usually—but you just know any meal crammed into a little plastic bin isn't going to taste all that great.
That's why this mod by Me444 called Plated Not Crated is such a shockingly excellent change to Starfield's food. No more eating out of rectangular plastic containers. Food now comes on plates. Honest to goodness plates! Just like we had back on Earth.
