But I think in gaming even without unlocking the power limits, it will be very competitive. Techpowerup does have gaming figures but theirs look a tad too Intel favoured compared to other review outlets so I'd get a second opinion on that. Regardless of which, for $330, you are getting close to 5950x in multi-theaded performance while being close to the top in gaming charts.

While the power draw of the 13600K looks sane compared to the 13900K, it's still a huge increase from the 12600K, which on the same chart only draws 128W. That's a 50% increase for probably just a 10-20% performance increase in most scenarios.

Yea that's true but it is a really good all around CPU if you don't want to break the bank but still get all around great performance. The 5800X3D is still the best bang per buck considering both 7000 series and Raptor Lake are expensive and aren't worth it imo outside of workstation performance. But if someone does want a budget upgrade that they want to keep for a long time, a cheap z690 that's on sale + 13600k would do wonders.

Just saw the 5800X3D on that power consumption chart compared to the latest and lmao, this makes for such an easy choice for me at this point. 

For gaming, I fully agree. Nothing beats the X3D in value and power draw so far.

I'll have to do some code compiling in the future, so I'll need something with more performance. Even just the 7700X is about 35% faster than the 5800X/5800X3D in compilation without breaking the bank, though I'll wait to see when the Zen 4 X3D models will come. Rumor has it that they will come early next year, and I can wait until then to see how they behave in gaming (compilation will probably not be affected at all, the scores for the 5800X and 5800X3D are virtually the same) and then run a 77007900/7950 X3D (depending on my financial situation by then) in ECO mode if they're not too expensive for me.

13900K is not an option for me btw. While the performance is great, the power draw is way too high. I'd love to see how well it performs if limited to it's nominal TDP of 125W, though, so maybe if the performance drop ain't too bad it could be a possibility. But with how much it pulls at stock, I don't have my hopes high on this one.

The power draw of the newer models and price can be def put offs for me, much in the same way Nvidia's new line-up is doing to me.

I've only browsed a bit through the reviews of the 13900K and, while it's unsurprisingly fast, specially in games, I don't feel particularly impressed by it given how much power it uses.

I mean, sure, for those that want the best of the best and need to get every.single.frame possible no matter what, then it's a fantastic piece of hardware, but for those that can come up`with the "but, is it worth it?" question, then the answer will probably be no.

I don't know, maybe once a take a look at the reviews of the 13600K I'm more impressed but, from the bars posted by Yuri, the fact that it uses 50W more than a 770X while being roughly on par in performance (at least in Blender), puts me a bit off. Tho I'm sure it will be a lot faster in games.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

One thing to keep in mind is that power consumption while gaming is a lot less than in an all core workload and the results there are quite impressive even if the power draw is still higher than Ryzen counterparts.

Remember, the i5 is a 14 core CPU (6P 8E) that is priced similarly to a 6 core CPU from Ryzen. It will obviously draw more power but the bang per buck it gives you is insane imo. It's a chart topper for gaming and almost as fast as a 5950x in rendering.

The 13600k is like 20% faster than 7700x in rendering but it's priced to compete against the 7600x and against that, it's like 55% faster for $30 more while saving big money on Z690 boards...

Damn thats one beast of a CPU intel has there. Has the gaming chops, great productivity performance and at a really good price; for the total package. And this is done on a vastly inferior node.

Never count Intel out tbh at least when it comes to their processors.



Pretty much. 7600x/7700x may as well be considered a scam when you look at what Intel is offering. Ironic that the tables have turned on core count this drastically in the budget tier. Hopefully AMD will discount them soon.
