Overwatch 2 will lock new heroes behind the battle pass and fans aren't happy

Anyone who's played Overwatch will know how hero flexibility can make or break a match. Reinhardt isn't going to have much fun swinging his hammer at a troublesome Pharah 30 feet in the air, but switch to Roadhog mid-match and you can chuck your hook at her and bring her tumbling to the ground for an easy kill. So why oh why is Overwatch 2 planning to lock new heroes behind its battle passes?

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Rumored To Be Slower Than RTX 3070 Ti, AD106 & AD107 GPUs Utilize PCIe x8 Interface

As usual for post Turing, the lower you go, the less of a performance jump you get. On the bright side, least this will be more powerful than a ps5 regardless which will hopefully mean cheaper PCs.

CDPR Hints At a Full Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel

I do hope this happens. I feel like Cyperpunk was a game where they were stretched too thin between supporting the last gen consoles and next gen consoles and pc. Hopefully with the next one, they will learn their lesson and focus on one generation instead of multiple. There is a great game underneath the bug filled mess that it originally shipped with and while the city won't be as lively as something out of GTA, the single player story is still worth playing through imo.

Two things come to mid from that article:

1) Anyone on a pre-Alder Lake/Zen4 system will get screwed because that also limits the cards to x8 PCIe 4.0 on those systems. And there's a lot of mid-range gamers that won't upgrade yet.

So, those that wanted to make just a CPU upgrade on their AM4 systems to keep up while they wait for AM5 to mature will have to keep their current GPUs or go for something like a 4060Ti or higher. But how many people that can afford one of those GPUs will "go cheap" with their CPU/system?

And 2) While the jump in performance to someting between the 3070 and 3070Ti doesn't sound like much, a quick loot at the database from TechPowerUp tells us something else:

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-3060.c3682

A 50% increase doesn't sound too bad, at least on systems with a PCIe 5.0 slot.

CDPR tried to do too much at the same time, yeah. And I'd say that they also made a mistake announcing the first release date too soon, because they were forced to delay the game several times until they found themselves in a position where another delay was no longer possible, and so they launched what they had... which was messy.

Well, at least now they have more experience and, by going with UE5, they'll no longer have the added problem of developing an engine for it.

I just hope they launch one or two more DLCs for 2077 besides the one they announced this week.

Well actually. It's more like pre-PCI-E Gen 4 that will get screwed. Since Lovelace is going to have PCI-E Gen 4, PCI-E Gen 4 platforms will get full bandwidth from Lovelace GPUs even if it is just x8. But if you pair it up with a platform that is PCI-E Gen 3, that's when the issue arises:

PCI-E Gen 4 on motherboard + x8 PCI-E Gen 4 GPU = 16GB/s = Full bandwidth going to the Lovelace GPU
PCI-E Gen 3 on motherboard + x8 PCI-E Gen 4 GPU = 8GB/s = Half bandwidth going to the Lovelace GPU

So if you have a PCI-E Gen 4 system, you have nothing to worry about. The real kicker is how AMD decided to mess with the CPU configurations on Ryzen 5000. 5600G/5700G are all PCI-E Gen 3 so even if you pair them up with a Gen 4 motherboards, you will get Gen 3 speeds. One of the main reasons I said to avoid that CPU line. So we can't even say, pre-zen 2 either.

And yea, you do have a good point. I forgot how big of a leap the 3070/Ti is.

You're right, the performance loss won't be huge, but that will depend on how much memory the 4060 and lower get. Because the more they'll have to rely on system RAM, the more performance they'll lose, even at 1080p.

What's going on with OW2 anyway?, I heard it is now going to me merged into OW1, does that mean I'm once again going to lose a game I paid for?.

I fucking hated Blizz when they took away my copy of WC3 and told me to buy the shitty "reforged" version.

Pretty much yea. You will keep your skins and all that but you will no longer be able to play the old game. You can only play OW2 which is technically F2P. They might have a custom scenario where it's 6v6 like in arcade but the main game gonna be 5v5. And having played the beta, if they didn't make drastic changes, OW2 is gonna be pretty shitty compared to OW1.

So I technically lose some parts of my game I paid for, but not the entire thing?.

I mean the 5v5 instead of 6v6 irks me, but the locked heroes shit and BP really puts me off wanting to play it. I cannot stand paid for and BP's being in the same mix, it just shouldn't be a thing, NP's should only ever be used for F2P games, and well, Blizz isn't the type of company to do F2P that is legit F2P with no strings attached (as we've seen with Diablo and even heartstone in a few instances in the past, especially with nerfing paid rare cards).

Yea think of OW2 more like OW1.5. And yea, BP route is pretty lame. Ironically I liked their implementation of lootbox system because I knew they were gonna come up with something shittier. Least with the lootbox system, you would get the gameplay essentials like heroes and such for free + day 1 and only cosmetics are locked behind it. And lootboxes were easy to get and you could unlock specific skins and such if you had enough in-game currency from lootboxes. So if you were patient enough, you could eventually get the skins and such that you wanted assuming you didn't already get it from the lootboxes.

The BP system feels much shittier with needing to grind out to get the hero and obviously certain cosmetic skins and such most likely being completely locked behind a paywall. But my biggest question is what happens if you don't grind it out? I skipped OW1 for like 2-3 years cause I had OW fatigue. If I did that with OW2, am I gonna not be able to access the heroes at all? Personally it just feels shitty.
