Also on that piece of news, it is revealed that Capcom will cooperate with AMD to bring Mantle to its current engine, Panta-Rhei.

I presume that means that they are bringing a game running on the engine over to PC. So far the only one announced is Deep Down, but given that is part of some Sony deal that may be off the table. I guess Resident Evil 7 should be running on the engine and that will probably come over.

I agree on both things, although I wouldn't completely rule out Deep Down. After all, Dead Rising 3 was moslty on the same situation and we all know how that ended, right?

Gin and jungling: Snoop Dogg supports fan petition for Dota 2 announcer pack

Comments6

Dota 2 players have petitioned Valve to add another optional announcer pack to their MOBA. They’d like the voice of Snoop Lion (formerly Snoop Dogg, formerly Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr) to sit alongside that of System Shock 2’s SHODAN and Stanley Parable’s Narrator on the loadout screen.

Among the 1,700 fans on board with the idea is Snoop to the dee-oh-double-gee himself.

Frontier rethink refund policy for those that wanted an offline mode in Elite: Dangerous

Comments9

Elite: Dangerous developer Frontier recently upset a lot of people by revealing that their epic-scale space sim would be online-only. For many this was a deal-breaker, and gamers began to approach Frontier to request a refund.

Frontier have been willing to play ball in many cases, but initially made one thing clear: pre-orders of the full, final game would be refunded no-questions-asked. Purchasers of the beta version who have already been playing the game online, however, were flat-out denied a return on their investment, as were Kickstarter backers. But that approach is about to change following studio head David Braben’s discussion with fans in an AMA on the Elite forums.

Blow up spaceships in the name of trade in Wayward Terran Frontier: Zero Falls

Comment

Wayward Terran Frontier: Zero Falls is quite the mouthful and the sort of name you’re going to forget in five minutes, but maybe you shouldn’t. It’s an indie space game that’s part trading and spaceship sim, part action RPG, with a style that’s not unlike Gratuitous Space Battles.

Players will be given command over a space station and custom ships in a procedural, infinite universe where NPC factions go about their business, at least until you board their ships and start murdering their crews, if that’s your cup of tea.

EVE Online's "This is EVE" trailer uses player voice comms to capture the MMO

Comments2

A couple of months ago, CCP put out a call to EVE Online players, asking them to submit voice comms for a secret project. At the end of the keynote at EVE Down Under in Sydney, CCP revealed how they’d used the player’s voices and experiences.

EVE Online is a bit hard to describe, particularly in a trailer, but this is why CCP wanted the voice comms of fleets and players - to create a new trailer that shows off EVE in a way that professional voice overs or flashy cinematics alone can’t down. The end result is “This is EVE”, and you can direct your eyes towards it below.

Chivalry isn't dead - Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is free for the weekend

Comments1

What is a weekend without decapitations and the din of battle and steel clashes with steel and dozens of voices scream out in pain or roar in victory? A rubbish weekend, that’s what it would be. You can avoid a rubbish weekend by playing first-person fantasy hack, slash and stab ‘em up, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare for free over the next two days on Steam.

It’s brilliant, so you should probably start hacking away at foes right bloody now. Or, after it’s downloaded. You probably shouldn’t go outside and start a fight.

Evolve won't charge players for its DLC maps; other DLC won't restrict matchmaking either

Comments5

Turtle Rock Studios, responsible for the upcoming monstrous multiplayer FPS, Evolve, have announced that they plan to release all DLC maps free of charge. Speaking to IGN in an interview, Turtle Rock Studios cited their reasoning, and it’s pretty simple stuff.

“We can't break the community up.” said creative director Phil Robb. “We never want anyone to get booted off of a server because they haven't bought something.”

Blizzard revert World of Warcraft dungeon loot changes after overwhelming fan feedback

Comment

Distribution of loot has always been a hot topic in World of Warcraft; one that’s been refined for over a decade. In Mists of Pandaria, a new loot system dubbed “Personal Loot” ruled the Raid Finder - a system which gives each player an individual chance of receiving an item appropriate to their class and spec.

It was such a success, that Blizzard used the system for Warlords of Draenor’s five-man dungeons. However, it was quickly reverted back to the old “Need before Greed” system after “team” and “community” feedback.

This wasn’t entirely true though, and less than 24 hours later of outcry and petitions, Blizzard put Personal Loot back as the default system for instance queue found groups; along with increasing the rewards for both systems.

Team Fortress 2 update brings tweaks to pl_upward, improves client stability

Comments1

Did you know? On the consoles, there’s a carbonite version of Team Fortress 2 that plays exactly the same way now as it did in 2007. Imagine that. Over here, it’s been onwards and upwards for the past seven years - a cycle of perpetual improvement for one of the best first-person shooters on PC.

It’s been four years since the Engineer Update that introduced Upward as a Payload map, for instance - but Valve are still trimming and weeding, and bettering the performance of the game overall.

Gearbox talk Tales from the Borderlands: "We're not writing the dialogue because Telltale's better at that"

Like Ken Watanabe watching his radioactive eggs, we like to keep an ear trained on the noises emanating from our Fraser’s study. Wailings, cacklings and chatterings are all par for the course, but our watchman last night reported something highly irregular: giggling.

Fraser’s been busy reviewing the first episode of Tales from the Borderlands, see - and it seems that Telltale’s first concerted effort at funny in quite some time has paid off. Until it arrives, we can sustain ourselves gnawing on interview snippets with the top brass at Gearbox.

DayZ devs tackle server performance and security ahead of Christmas break

Comment

Bohemia know that it wasn’t the bicycles or iffy third-person camera that made DayZ mod so compelling, nor anything captured in the fanmade, single player MiniDayZ. Instead, it was the chance meeting of two players in a context bubbling with uncertainty.

One of their goals over the year’s remaining weeks is to scrape away anything that might obscure that interaction - connection issues, crashes and whathaveyou.

Way of Life is Crusader Kings II's roleplaying expansion

Crusader Kings II has had more expansions than Henry VIII has wives. A lot more, actually, since he only had six - the lazy bugger - while Paradox’s grand strategy and intrigue sim has given rise to eight expansions, and lots more DLC. And while the last one, the excellent Charlemagne, launched not that long ago, another is on the horizon. It’s called Way of Life, and it’s a wee bit different.

Why pro StarCraft 2 has rejected the classic maps

Comments2

If you tune into any StarCraft tournament this month or next, you’ll note that everyone is playing on the same map pool we’ve had since midsummer. In fact, just last week, the DreamHack Open Twitter account reassured viewers that DreamHack winter would be decided using the Season 3 WCS map pool.

What’s striking about all this is that every single tournament organizer has rejected Blizzard’s Season 4 ladder map pool, which was compiled via fan vote from a list of StarCraft 2’s oldest and best-known competitive maps. While fans might wax nostalgic about the days of Daybreak and Ohana, the pro scene seems to be saying that the past is best left to memory.
