Resident Evil Village broke 100,000 concurrent players on PC, setting series record

Resident Evil Village had a damn good release on PC, breaking 100,000 concurrent players on launch and setting a record for the series.
The game netted 101,726 concurrent players on its May 7 release day, according to SteamDB. That makes it the biggest peak for any Resident Evil release on PC to date, with second-best Resident Evil 2 Remake still firmly behind with a peak of 74,227 concurrent players. Other PC launches in the series like Resident Evil 3 Remake saw a peak of 60,293 players, with Resident Evil 7 pulling in just 20,449 concurrent players.

Back in September 2020, we informed you about one of the best tech demo for real-time ray tracing, NVIDIA’s Marbles RTX. And today, we are happy to report that this tech demo is available for download.
This demo has hundreds of dynamic ray-traced lights and over one hundred million polygons. Furthermore, the demo showcases photorealistic real-time graphics, and supports both NVIDIA’s Omniverse and DLSS technologies.
In order to download and install the Marbles RTX Demo, you’ll have to download the Omniverse beta from here. Once installed, you can find the RTX Tech demo inside the Omniverse launcher as an app.

Microsoft yanks a dodgy AMD driver that is bricking some Windows 10 PCs

Attention AMD users, if your Windows 10 PC recently began having trouble booting up with an error message indicating a problem with your boot drive, it's likely because of a buggy driver doled out through Windows Update. Microsoft has pulled the driver following numerous reports of boot issues.

The dodgy driver is labeled as "Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. - SCSIAdapter - 9.3.0.221," and as spotted by Windows Latest, there are numerous reports of it crashing PCs with the blue screen of death (BSOD) error code "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE."

So, how did this happen? According to the software engineer, the driver was slowly rolled out to compatible PCs and, during that phase, was not flagged as problematic. But then it started to arrive on incompatible machines because of how it was listed.
"The driver installed on an extremely generic hardware ID, so on certain machines it would put that driver in the wrong place," they explained.
AMD and Microsoft share the blame on this one, though as the engineer noted, "ultimately MS delivered and installed this driver, so we need to be better about this."

Modder ‘Raq’ has released a new mod for Resident Evil 3 Remake that allows you to play as Resident Evil Village’s Lady Dimitrescu. this is basically a character swap mod that replaces Jill Valentine with Alcina Dimitrescu.
The modder has extracted Dimitrescu’s model from Resident Evil Village and imported it to RE3R. Not only that, but this mod has full facial animations and also includes cloth physics for her dress.
To be honest, it would make more sense to replace Nemesis with Dimitrescu. Then again, I’m pretty certain that someone is already working on such a mod for Resident Evil 3 Remake. Also, and since modders were able to extract this 3D model, we’ll be soon getting a Nude Lady Dimitrescu Mod for Resident Evil Village.

In December 2018, we informed you about a must-have HD Texture Pack for NieR: Automata. And today, modder GPUnity released a new – and final – version of it that overhauls over 300 textures.
The goal of this mod is to fix the low-resolution textures and maintain visual consistency for the best user experience. Furthermore, there is a lite version of the texture pack is available for anyone with a lower-end system.
Do note that this Texture Pack requires Kaldaien’s FAR (Fix Automata Resolution) mod, which allows for texture injection.

DarknessValtier has released a new mod for Resident Evil Village that replaces Chris Redfield with Albert Wesker. As you may have guessed, this is a character swap mod and nothing more. The good news is that there are full facial animations to the Wesker model.
Unfortunately, though, everyone will be addressing Wesker as Chris. Moreover, this mod does not change Chris’s voice, meaning that Albert will sound like Chris.
Still, this is something that some die-hard RE fans will find cool. After all, we all love Albert, right?
You can download this mod from here. As a bonus, here is another mod that brings the NieR Automata outfits to this latest Resident Evil game. This mod gives the Dimitrescu daughters a YorHa dress. Optionally, you can also give them the visor and the virtuous contract.

A film director has claimed Capcom used one of his creature designs for a monster in Resident Evil Village.
Richard Raaphorst, who directed the 2013 found-footage horror flick Frankenstein's Army, shared some comparison images on his LinkedIn page between the monster from his movie and the one from Village. The creature, which looks a bit like a Big Daddy with a desk fan glued to his face, is seen standing in a similarly derelict building in the first image. The second image shows both the movie and game version of the creature on fire.

- NZXT sent Steve the fixed Riser cable which was redesigned and very high quality so Steve reviewed it and gave NZXT a Thumbs up
- Turns out NZXT is shipping two different Riser cables, one that him and other media got, and another that some of his viewers got which was the original Riser cable that was modified with the fix. While that one looks like it won't light on fire, the quality isn't as high as the one that was shipped to GN and other media outlets and they were under the impression that everyone would get the high quality one.

SSD Killer? We Tested Chia Cryptocurrency Farming for one Week

He does quite a good amount of testing and explains how Chia works and etc. One plot = 1.1 TB written to the SSD. After one week of plotting, his MP600 SSD has 50 TB written. Yea, this thing will kill a lot of the lower tier SSDs. He also tried a RAM Disk as RAM can do effectively infinite reads/writes but a minimum plot requires 250GB+ so you would need to get a 512GB of RAM for 1 plot. And it turns out that it's only 10% faster.

Resident Evil Village in a nutshell

Intel has launched their Tiger Lake laptop CPUs

Looking at all the new laptop launches, it seems that every company including Asus saved their best for Intel. And laptops that should have went Ryzen like the Dell XPS line as those have a heavy focus on cpu and battery life are still Intel only. Same for a number of other mainstream companies like HP and Lenovo where the AMD version seems a bit inferior compared to the Tiger Lake laptops without even getting into the CPU performance.

First the goods:

- Tiger Lake has 20 PCI-E 4.0 lanes vs Ryzen 5000 16 PCI-E 3.0 lanes. Tiger Lake can offer up to 16 PCI-E 4.0 lanes to the GPU (but can be split up between storage and etc) where as Ryzen 5000 can only give 8 PCI-E 3.0 lanes to the GPU.

- Tiger Lake i9 and i7 H series also has 24MB of L3 vs Ryzen 5000 Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 9 has 20MB of L3.

- Intel's own benchmarks show that their i9 beating ryzen 9 by 10-26% but I'd take that with a grain of salt.

Now the bad:

- "The halo eight-core 16-thread Core i9-11980HK peaks at 5.0 GHz on two cores, fully supports overclocking, and despite its official 65W TDP, can consume up to 110W under heavy load." For comparison, Ryzen 5980HS has a peak of 65 Watts.

Remember, this is a laptop CPU. In order to cool the i9, that's gonna be a solid good luck! And the battery life is gonna be arse. So the i7 is gonna be the more interesting one. As always, wait for benchmarks. Personally, unless the battery life or performance is gonna be super awful, it will be hard to go with a Ryzen laptop when all of the laptop manufacturers decided to save their best for Intel's Tiger Lake. Asus for example gave all the Intel Tiger Lake laptops a webcam among a number of other things like exclusive models and higher tdp GPUs vs Ryzen laptops don't have a webcam and have less models. Alienware has gimped the GPU on their Ryzen laptops as Dell has been know to be an Intel Shill. But we will see how it turns out.

CookiePLMonster has released a SilentPatch for TOCA 2: Touring Cars, allowing it to run properly on modern PC systems. In addition, this fan patch adds support for widescreen monitors, something that the original version lacked.
Going into more details, this patch rewrites the in-game timers to fix a freeze when starting the race or leaving the game, occurring on modern machines. Moreover, it allows the game to handle all arbitrary aspect ratios without the need for hex editing.
Additionally, it allows PC gamers to adjust the Field of View, HUD scaling and menu text scaling via the INI file. It also removes the CD checks.

Epic may be preparing to bring a new PVE survival sandbox to Fortnite, as files referencing "Daybreak" appear in today's 16.40 patch.
As spotted by Eurogamer, the latest Fortnite update includes references to an "open world simulation sandbox" previously teased by leaker Hypex earlier this month. From the looks of various leaks, Daybreak takes place on an entirely different map from Battle Royale, and involves hunting monsters, scavenging and crafting items before making your escape with other players by repairing a helicopter before the game's third night.

As there isn't any graphical settings or any info, it's hard to judge how good the cpu is based on this

By the looks of it, it seems to me like the 3060 replaces the 2060, the 3050Ti the 1660 and the 3050 replaces the 1650 and it's variations.

With that in mind, the performance increases should be relatively modest.

Other than those and the announced 3070Ti/3080Ti they will probably just release new chips in the MX line for now.
