Epic Games Store is adding Open Critic reviews and wishlisting
https://www.pcgamer.com/epic-games-store-is-adding-open-critic-reviews-and-wishlisting/
Epic Games has rolled out an update to its digital storefront that gives users the ability to view trending games, browse by genre or features, see what's on sale, what's been recently updated, and more. It also shared a look at some of the big new features in development, including a wishlist, continued improvements to the library view, and critic reviews on store pages.
The Open Critic partnership is interesting because Epic has been very careful about how it handles reviews on store page. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney said last year that Epic was working on a review system, but that it would be opt-in for developers in order to avoid issues with review bombing. But some gamers, such as in this Reddit thread, believe that an opt-in system will enable developers to avoid valid criticism; integrating Open Critic reviews into its store pages will make it easier for users to figure out which games may be worth their time, but it doesn't address the core complaint that people, individually or in groups, should be able to use reviews to express their displeasure about whatever.

Reshade 4.4 available for download, features better DX12 support & experimental Vulkan support
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/reshade-4-4-available-for-download-features-better-dx12-support-experimental-vulkan-support/
The team behind Reshade has released a brand new version of it. Reshade 4.4 adds experimental support for the Vulkan API. Moreover, it features better DX12 support, and brings numerous performance improvements to all APIs.
In case you weren’t aware of, ReShade is a generic post-processing injector for games developed by crosire. This tool allows you to implement better ambient occlusion, real depth of field effects, color correction, sharpening and more. However, do note that this version does not feature Marty McFly’s Ray Tracing effects.
Going into slightly more details, Reshade 4.4 adds lots of improvements to D3D9/10/11 depth buffer detection. It also improves D3D11 performance by removing global locks, as well as D3D12 performance by reusing a single command list. Furthermore, it fixes a number of crashes, stutters and bugs.

Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Remake in Unreal Engine 4 – Version 2019/Update #4 available for download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/zelda-ocarina-of-time-remake-in-unreal-engine-4-version-2019-update-4-available-for-download/
CryZENx has just released a brand new version of his The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake in Unreal Engine 4. This 2019 version of this remake features new areas and better visuals. As such, we strongly suggest downloading it, right now.
What’s really cool about this fan remake is that Nintendo has not attempted to shut it down. CryZENx has been developing this fan remake for the past few years, without receiving any C&D letter. Therefore, I’m pretty sure that a lot of Zelda fans will be pleased with his work.
In this latest 2019 version of this remake, players can interact with NPCs and fight some enemies. Players can also play the ocarina, collect hearts, break some vases and more. Furthermore, it will allow you to explore new areas that were not featured in previous versions.
>> You can download it from its Discord channel.

Modder aims to overhaul the graphics of STALKER with Ray Tracing, Soft Shadows, DirectX 11 and more
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/modder-aims-to-overhaul-the-graphics-of-stalker-with-ray-tracing-soft-shadows-directx-11-and-more/
Strelokkkkk is currently working on a graphics overhaul mod for the first STALKER game, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl. STALKER SoC Remaster will introduce a DirectX 11 renderer, soft shadows, as well as Ray Tracing effects.
The modder will be using Reshade Ray Tracing in order to enhance the game’s Ambient Occlusion and Global Illumination effects. In other words, this is a post-process effect and not native Ray Tracing support. Furthermore, it isn’t clear yet whether the modder will be able to include Pascal “Marty McFly” Gilcher’s Reshade to his mod. After all, Gilcher’s Reshade is behind a Patreon wall right now.
Alongside the aforementioned effects, the modder plans to include high quality textures. Some of them will be 2K, some of them will be 4K, and some of them may even go as high as 8K. The modder will also add enhanced Godrays, grass shadows, high quality tessellated models, improved steep parallax mapping and more.

This mod adds GTA5-like bullet knockback ragdoll physics to Fallout 4
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/this-mod-adds-gta5-like-bullet-knockback-ragdoll-physics-to-fallout-4/
Tehsham has released a new must-have mod for Fallout 4. This mod adds bullet knockback ragdoll physics like those in Grand Theft Auto 5. As such, this mod makes the game more believable and fun, and it’s something you need to download and install.
Moreover, the mod enhances gameplay combat and adds life to stiffness. The mod makes pistol and automatic weapons weaker so they only work on some races. It also introduces different impact force for different types of weapons.
The modder also suggests using Ragdoll Collision, Corpse Collision and Realistic Death Physics, otherwise targets get blown away.
Last but not least, you can download this Ragdoll Bullet Knock-Back Physics mod from here. Also note that it comes in four versions for you to try.

New demo released for the Blood vs Doom mashup, Bloom, featuring 4 maps and 30 hybrid enemies
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/new-demo-released-for-the-blood-vs-doom-mashup-bloom-featuring-4-maps-and-30-hybrid-enemies/
Drugod has released a new demo for his Blood vs Doom mashup, called Bloom. As its title suggests, this mod aims to combine together these classic shooters by allowing players to fight enemies from both of them.
The new demo adds three new maps. Therefore, players can battle their way in 4 maps in total. Moreover, this demo comes with 30 hybrid enemies (though you can freely disable that).
Furthermore, players can use any commercial iwad as base (DOOM II, ULTIMATE DOOM, FINAL DOOM and even SIGIL) and play old maps with Caleb or Doomguy. Not only that, but the demo is compatible with any vanilla custom map. Thus, gamers can play their old vanilla maps and replace the old monsters with the new hybrid ones.

https://www.pcgamer.com/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-narrative-director-defends-highway-of-death/

Makers of Outlast tease their next game
https://www.pcgamer.com/makers-of-outlast-tease-their-next-game/
The intriguing image above was posted by developer Red Barrels very appropriately on Halloween, with a promise to reveal more soon. The retro horror game Faith is coming to Steam with a brand-new chapter
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-retro-horror-game-faith-is-coming-to-steam-with-a-brand-new-chapter/
The top-down retro-adventure Faith, we said back in March, is one of the best horror games to come along in recent years. You play as a priest, armed with only a crucifix, who must banish spirits from a haunted property—spirits who, it bears mentioning, will tear you into pieces if you're not careful. Faith Chapter 2 has a similar setup, with improved pixel art and "memorable sequences including the game's surprisingly violent death animations."

Xenophage, the Destiny 2 machine gun with a bug in it, is also bugged
https://www.pcgamer.com/xenophage-the-destiny-2-machine-gun-with-a-bug-in-it-is-also-bugged/
Xenophage is a sweet-looking exotic machine gun in Destiny 2 that dropped earlier this week. As we explained in our recent guide to getting the thing, its magazine capacity is relatively small but it fires explosive rounds that can chew through waves of enemies with an alarming quickness. But players have noticed that despite its ability to mow through trash mobs, the actual damage is relatively lacklustre, and outperformed by most power weapons in the game.

All Overwatch cosmetics will carry over to Overwatch 2
https://www.pcgamer.com/overwatch-1-cosmetics-overwatch-2/
Overwatch's heroes have assembled some big wardrobes since 2016: Hundreds of skins, along with other cosmetics that keep players opening loot boxes and coming back for seasonal events. Now we know that Overwatch 2 is coming, and it's a full-on sequel, with new co-op modes in addition to PvP multiplayer. Overwatch 2 could've been a clean slate that wiped away all those skins and the hundreds or thousands of hours it took to collect them, but that's not how it's going down.

Overwatch 2's first new hero is a Canadian named Sojourn
https://www.pcgamer.com/overwatch-2s-first-new-hero-is-a-canadian-named-sojourn/
Overwatch 2 was announced today at BlizzCon with a getting-the-band-back-together cinematic that kind of got me right here, if you know what I mean. The trailer featured a brief look at Echo, a long-rumored new hero who shows up to help Winston and the gang deal with an oversized Megatron-wannabe who's causing trouble in Paris.
But Echo isn't the only newcomer to the team. At the end of the separate Overwatch 2 gameplay trailer, we get a glance at a new hero named Sojourn. Strictly speaking, it's not her first appearance in the game: She came up with the plan to take down Doomfist by going after his accountant Maximilien, and according to the Overwatch Wiki she actually appeared way back in 2016, as an unknown member of the Overwatch team seen in an old photograph.

https://www.pcgamer.com/disco-elysiums-lead-designer-wants-to-make-an-expansion-and-sequel-has-already-written-a-novel/
It's been mentioned in some of the glowing reviews for RPG Disco Elysium (our reviewer gave it 92%) that its unique setting was created for a tabletop RPG Estonian designers, ZA/UM, have been playing together for 10 years. According to an interview lead designer and writer Robert Kurvitz had with Escapist Magazine, he's also written a novel in the same setting. It's called Sacred and Terrible Air, and it's going to be translated into English next year.

Here's how Diablo 4's shared world works
https://www.pcgamer.com/heres-how-diablo-4s-shared-world-works/
In my preview of Diablo 4, I said I was concerned that frequently bumping into random other players would interfere with the desolate and desperate mood. While you can solo the game, you can't do so without seeing other players in towns and around the open world.

It sure sounds like StarCraft 2's devs would like to make StarCraft 3
https://www.pcgamer.com/it-sure-sounds-like-starcraft-2s-devs-would-like-to-make-starcraft-3/
Speaking to StarCraft 2 production director Tim Morton and lead co-op designer Kevin Dong at BlizzCon earlier today, I had to ask: Are you making StarCraft 3? Blizzard announced numbered sequels to two of its biggest series this week, after all, so it's not out of the question.

Fight and build in novel free platformer Orudo Taima
https://www.pcgamer.com/fight-and-build-in-novel-free-platformer-orudo-taima/
It's a little rough around the edges, but there's much to enjoy about Orudo Taima, an attractive platformer where you have to fix up a boat. Conveniently, the parts required to fix it are dotted around the cursed island you call home, so you'll need to travel around collecting bits of wood, or nails, or other boaty bits.

Johnny Silverhand, Keanu Reeves' character in Cyberpunk 2077, shows up a lot more than was originally planned thanks to the John Wick actor. Johnny actually lives inside protagonist V's head, on a chip, so he can turn up anywhere, but it turns out that Reeves pushed for him to have a larger role.

Dark Souls modding has hit a major milestone, seven years after the original version launched on PC. The first new map, which you might recognise as Half-Life's Crossfire, has been imported into the game. Check out the test above, courtesy of modder Dropoff.
While Dark Souls has plenty of mods, the modding community has had a lot of trouble with custom maps. On Reddit, Katalash provides a helpful overview of the obstacles, some of which still need to be overcome.

Tuesday news, part two:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is getting 38 more maps, according to a leak
https://www.pcgamer.com/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-is-getting-38-more-maps-according-to-a-leak/
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players look like they might become inundated with maps. Senescallo leaked the alleged map list on Reddit over the weekend, though there's no indication when and in what order they'll arrive.

Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan says leaks are 'extremely demoralizing'
https://www.pcgamer.com/overwatch-director-jeff-kaplan-says-leaks-are-extremely-demoralizing/
Leaks can be fun for gamers, and they sometimes serve as very effective PR, too. People tend to pay attention when they're reasonably—but not entirely—sure that something cool is going to happen with stuff they're interested in. But for game developers and reps who put great effort into crafting big announcements, seeing all of that work (and those exciting surprises) go out the window days or weeks before they're meant to can be a real heartbreaker, Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan said in an interview.

Devolver Digital co-founder: If games are like drugs, 'let's offer people psychedelics'
https://www.pcgamer.com/devolver-digital-co-founder-if-games-are-like-drugs-lets-offer-people-psychedelics/
Are videogames addictive? There's been a lot of talk on that topic in recent years. The World Health Organization seems to think they are, plenty of others have doubts. Devolver Digital cofounder Mike Wilson isn't sure, but he doesn't dismiss the idea out of hand: He said during the recent Reboot Developer Red conference (via GamesIndustry) that game makers are essentially the digital equivalent of drug companies (and dealers), and that they need to handle that role responsibly.

Nebuchadnezzar channels classic city builders like Pharaoh and Zeus
https://www.pcgamer.com/nebuchadnezzar-channels-classic-city-builders-like-pharaoh-and-zeus/
Nebuchadnezzar is a historical city builder with a name I hate to type. It was announced recently and will be with us next year, but it wouldn't have looked out of place next to Impressions Games' Pharaoh or Zeus back in the '90s and early '00s. It's a bit of a throwback, and the trailer is giving me the warm and fuzzies.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now on PC
https://www.pcgamer.com/when-does-red-dead-2-pc-unlock/
Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now on PC, available through the Rockstar Games launcher and the Epic Games store. While we're not ready to publish our review just yet—we didn't get early access to the PC build beyond a hands-on event last week—we'll have some first impressions on the PC port up later today. In the meantime, here's everything you need to get started with Red Dead Redemption 2's PC version.
>> And so far it's up to a rough start.

Epic Games Store exploit allows you to play and keep a game forever, without even buying it
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/epic-games-store-exploit-allows-you-to-play-and-keep-a-game-forever-without-even-buying-it/
It appears that PC gamers can take advantage of an exploit on the Epic Games Store to access and keep games to their accounts for free. Willian Worrall of CCN discovered this new vulnerability and – for anyone interested – Epic Games has not fixed it yet.
According to Worrall, a user can log into an account that has purchased the game and download it. That’s quite normal as it happens with every store/launcher. However, users can then logout, log into their own account and start playing the game. Yeap, you read that right; even if you haven’t purchased the game for your own account, you will still be able to play it.
As Worrall noted, this is mainly due to the lack of a DRM. In order to demonstrate this exploit, Worrall used Borderlands 3 as an example. This exploit can be easily reproduced on newer EGS accounts, and it most likely affects all games on the store. Now while Borderlands 3 uses the Denuvo anti-tamper tech, it does not – apparently – lock your copy to your Epic Games Store account.

Huh ? It looked fine to me when I posted it yesterday, oh they changed some of the pages from the review ...

I guess it depends on the hardware vendor ...

DX12/Vulkan is paying dividends towards AMD since they're doing way better in RDR2 than usual in other AAA PC games. Nvidia looks like it struggling because the shader programs ported from consoles don't really match their hardware ...

Yeah, looks like AMD's forward thinking with DX12 and Vulkan, as well as been so eager to have their products in consoles, is finally starting to pay off. A bit late, since this generation is almost over, but it could also prove valuable in the future.
