Friday news, part two and last for the week:

Player claims Fallout 1st domain to protest Fallout 76's subscription
https://www.pcgamer.com/player-claims-fallout-1st-domain-to-protest-fallout-76s-subscription/
Yesterday, Bethesda boldly announced that their much-maligned MMO spinoff Fallout 76 was getting an optional subscription service named Fallout 1st. To say that this went down poorly with the game's community is a massive understatement. One particularly salty player even snapped up FalloutFirst.com. What they did with it wasn't pretty.
>> I'm actually surprised Bethesda was dumb enough to not have the rights for that domain.

Adorable deckbuilder Rise Of The Slime enters early access
https://www.pcgamer.com/adorable-deckbuilder-rise-of-the-slime-enters-early-access/
Deck-building dungeon crawlers are common enough these days, but few are as cute as Rise Of The Slime, and I'm not just saying that because I like the Dragon Quest series. Seemingly inspired by Slay The Spire, it's a deck-building dungeon crawl RPG starring an innocuous little blob-monster. Or at least a cardboard cut-out of one glued onto a stick—truly a work of the Dark Arts And Crafts.

Dota Underlords' 'Big Update' goes live with new heroes and a Duos mode
https://www.pcgamer.com/dota-underlords-big-update-goes-live-with-new-heroes-and-a-duos-mode/

Players will select an Underlord at the beginning of each match to lead their team with abilities and buffs that will grow stronger as they play.

Ubisoft sues Rainbow Six Siege cheat maker who appeared on the BBC
https://www.pcgamer.com/ubisoft-sues-rainbow-six-siege-cheat-maker-who-appeared-on-the-bbc/
Ubisoft has filed a lawsuit against the operators of a company called MizuSoft, which it claims has earned thousands of dollars monthly through the sale of Rainbow Six Siege cheat software. MizuSoft promised to help Siege cheaters get away with it by working in subtle ways, including boosting weapon damage, expanding the field of vision, revealing hidden enemies, and providing information on things like enemy location and health.

Artificial Extinction is first-person tower defense with robots
https://www.pcgamer.com/artificial-extinction-is-first-person-tower-defense-with-robots/
Artificial Extinction is an indie title by 100 Hr Games where you have to defend yourself from an evil AI that controls drones and terraforming spiderbots. It looks a bit like the Sanctum games if you remember those, and has you running around to place sentries before the next wave of AI attacks.

Stellaris adds a stony-faced new faction in the Lithoids Species Pack
https://www.pcgamer.com/stellaris-adds-a-stony-faced-new-faction-in-the-lithoids-species-pack/
Stellaris, much like space itself, is always expanding. While the larger Federations expansion isn't due out later this year and set to overhaul the diplomatic side of the sprawling 4X strategy sandbox, Paradox Interactive rolled out an extra slab of optional DLC yesterday for players eager to expand their universe. The Lithoids Species Pack allows players to control an empire of planet-devouring mineral-based creatures. It's life, Jim, but not as we know it.

In the trailer below, Capcom announces a January 9th release date, and showcases a few of the shinier features of the enhanced PC port. Give it a peek.

Payday 2 development resumes after a rough year for Starbreeze
https://www.pcgamer.com/payday-2-development-resumes-after-a-rough-year-for-starbreeze/
Troubled Swedish publisher Starbreeze is apparently going back to what works, announcing today via Steam that Overkill's co-op heist shooter Payday 2 is returning to active development. The studio is re-branding the current 'ultimate' version of the game (which was meant to be the final release, live-action secret ending and all) as the Legacy Edition, and letting players buy DLC separately once more.

Electronic Arts all but confirms its return to Steam
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/electronic-arts-all-but-confirms-its-return-to-steam/
A new rumour surfaced last week, suggesting that Electronic Arts would return to Steam. And yesterday, the publisher has shared a teaser video that all but confirms this. This video shows an EA steamy cup (get it? Steam, EA).
>> It would be great but also odd. Why coming back to Steam now and not going to the Epic Store given that they left to get more money?

Steam now asks if you want to revise your user review after spending more time with a game
https://www.pcgamer.com/steam-now-asks-players-if-they-want-to-revise-their-user-review-after-hours-of-play/
The beta version of the new Steam client has started asking players whether they want to revise their user review once they've logged additional hours in a given game.
The new feature, part of Steam's big new library update, was first highlighted by user PunnyCasual on the Destiny 2 subreddit. A pop-up message on their Steam client, which they captured and posted here, read: "You've played an additional 93 hours. Would you like to revise your review?"

MODS/EMULATORS

PC gamers can now play Zelda: Breath of the Wild with higher FOV and an “Over the Shoulder” camera
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/pc-gamers-can-play-zelda-breath-of-the-wild-with-higher-fov-and-an-over-the-shoulder-camera/
While The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has not been officially released on the PC, PC gamers can already enjoy it by using the Nintendo WiiU emulator, CEMU. Not only that, but earlier this Summer, the first mods appeared online for this Zelda game.
(...)
The man responsible for this mod is Silentverge. Silentverge was able to increase the FOV and include various camera angles. PC gamers can now use a close FOV, a classic FOV and a FAR FOV cameras. However, the most exciting new viewpoint that this mod adds is the “Over the Shoulder” camera.
This Over the Shoulder camera is a really cool new way to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. As such, we strongly suggest downloading it and testing it.

First mods for The Outer Worlds let you skip startup videos & unlock UE4 Developer Console
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/first-mods-for-the-outer-worlds-let-you-skip-startup-videos-unlock-ue4-developer-console/
Private Division has just released Obsidian’s new RPG, The Outer Worlds, and it appears that its first mods have surfaced online. The first mod allows you to skip the startup splash videos, while the second one unlocks the UE4 developer console.
According to Infogram, there is currently no convenient method to skip the developer splash video that plays when starting the game. However, most users can work around this by replacing the .mp4’s with blank files. You can also bypass it by deleting the file, however this may introduce issues.
On the other hand, the second mod unlocks the UE4 developer console. This will allow players to mess with developer commands, cvars and more.
>> Check the article for the links (to Nexus Mods and GitHub).

You can make The Outer Worlds' tiny text bigger with an INI tweak
https://www.pcgamer.com/you-can-make-the-outer-worlds-tiny-text-bigger-with-an-ini-tweak/
The Outer Worlds has received a positive response both from reviewers and many happy players, though one fairly common complaint has to do with the teeny, tiny text size. There's a lot of reading in The Outer Worlds: dialogue subtitles, item descriptions, journal entries, menu text, and more. And there's currently no option to adjust the size of the on-screen text, which is unfortunate. It's pretty itty-bitty.
However, a fix may be on the way. On Twitter, Obsidian Production Director Alec Frey said he would "double check this issue is in our database today and is properly prioritized!" Hopefully, we'll soon see some options to adjust the size of the game's tiny text.
(...)
In the meantime, there's a tweak PC players can use while we cross our fingers for an official option to be added. There's an INI file that can be edited to scale up the entire UI, which makes the text a bit larger. I tried it out and it works, though you'll need to fiddle with the value a bit to find the sweet spot. And keep in mind, this tweak resizes the entire UI, so if you make it too big it will expand past the edges of your screen and you may not be able to read everything or click certain elements.

Skyrim HD SE is a 10GB HD Texture Pack, featuring thousands of 1K, 2K and 4K textures
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/skyrim-hd-se-is-a-10gb-hd-texture-pack-featuring-thousands-of-1k-2k-and-4k-textures/
Over the past few months, we’ve shared a number of Texture Packs for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. However, there are gamers out there that would prefer a single pack with a lot of textures for numerous objects. And today, we are bringing you such a HD Texture Pack.
Modder ‘luxor8071’ has released a 10GB HD Texture Pack for Skyrim Special Edition that features thousands of 1K, 2K and 4K textures. As said, this pack is ideal for those that do not want to search the Internet in order to find out the best packs for skyboxes, snow, furniture, interiors, etc.
Going into slightly more details, this pack adds new high quality textures for architecture, skies, clutter and dungeons. It also improves the textures of various effects, like whitewater and candleflames. Moreover, it adds new textures for both the Dawnguard and the Dragonborn DLCs.
In order to install Skyrim HD SE, you’ll have to first install SMIM and Blended Roads. Then, you’ll have to download Skyrim HD SE from here. Afterwards, you’ll have to run SSELODGen or TexGen and DynDOLOD.

These mods for the first Spyro game upscale all of the enemy and boss textures to 4K
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/these-mods-for-the-first-spyro-game-upscale-all-of-the-enemy-and-boss-textures-to-4k/
Modder ‘Cramped Misfit’ has released two must-have texture packs for the first Spyro game. These mods are for Spyro Reignited Trilogy and upscale all of the enemy and boss textures to 4K. Now as the title suggests, these improved textures are only for the first Spyro game (from the collection). As such, don’t expect the enemies and bosses in Spyro 2 and Spyro 3 to look better. Still, these packs are a must-have for anyone that wants to play the first part.
>> Check the article for the links to both mods (both at Nexus Mods) and the instructions to install them.

I don't know who else needs to hear this, but there's a game on Steam all about destroying giant ships. It's called Sinking Simulator, and it's actually the second iteration of the game – an earlier version hit Greenlight several years ago and Tyler even briefly wrote about it. That said, this appears to be the first time Sinking Simulator has been playable on Steam, though it's been on Gamejolt and indieDB for a while.

Bethesda working on hotfixes for broken Fallout 76 subscription features
https://www.pcgamer.com/bethesda-working-on-hotfixes-for-broken-fallout-76-subscription-features/
Fallout 76's new subscription service, Fallout 1st, hasn't been received well for the most part. The pricey $12 per month ($100 per year) subscription offers, among other things, an unlimited scrap storage box and private servers. But in addition to widespread complaints about the service in general, some subscribers have been reporting technical problems as well. Namely, that the private servers aren't exactly private and that their scrap supplies have been disappearing from their shiny new premium boxes.
In a statement sent to Polygon, Bethesda says it's addressing both issues. Currently, private servers are joinable by anyone on the friends list of the server owner, even if they haven't been invited. As you can imagine, this is a big issue: anyone who has played Fallout 76 has no doubt added players (perhaps many of them) to their friends list who aren't really friends but just strangers they may have played with briefly. Starting your private game and being joined by a bunch of randoms you don't really even know isn't exactly the definition of private.
>> What were they expecting, that it would work? C'mon, it's Bethesda and Fallout 76! That there would be big problems was all but guaranteed.

Class warfare has come to Fallout 76
https://www.pcgamer.com/class-warfare-has-come-to-fallout-76/
Like the vaults themselves, Fallout 76 has become a curious social experiment. Since launch, the initially egalitarian West Virginian wasteland has slowly been splitting its community with microtransactions and premium conveniences, which reached their zenith last week with the launch of Fallout 1st, a premium membership subscription. Now some players seem to be gearing up for a class war.

NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready 441.08 WHQL Driver released, adds support for Reshade filters & Image Sharpening
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/nvidia-geforce-game-ready-441-08-whql-driver-released-adds-support-for-reshade-filters-image-sharpening/
Last week, we informed you about the native support for Reshade via NVIDIA’s control panel. And today, NVIDIA released a brand new driver for its graphics cards that enables it. The NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready 441.08 WHQL driver adds support for Reshade filters, as well as support for Image Sharpening via the Control Panel.
As NVIDIA noted, with the launch of the new driver, you can now import hundreds of new customization filters from ReShade. There are currently 14 NVIDIA-Made Freestyle filters for competitive games and 16 filters for non-competitive games.
NVIDIA also supports 30+ curated ReShade filters for competitive games and 70+ filters for non-competitive. Furthermore, PC gamers can add any custom Reshade filter for the non-competitive games.

Developers now have access to more DX12 features, such as DirectX Raytracing tier 1.1 & Mesh Shader
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/developers-now-have-access-to-more-dx12-features-such-as-directx-raytracing-tier-1-1-mesh-shader/
Microsoft has added some new features to DirectX 12 that developers can use in their games. Alongside these features, developers can now access a new tier of DirectX Raytracing effects and Mesh Shaders.
DXR tier 1.1 is a superset of tier 1.0. Microsoft suggests game developers to start building their raytracing solution based on the existing tier 1.0 APIs, and then move up to tier 1.1 once they can better evaluate the benefit of tier 1.1. to their games. Microsoft also continues to work with both GPU vendors and game developers to better expose hardware capabilities and to better address adoption pain points.
(...)
On the other hand, Mesh shaders and amplification shaders are the next generation of GPU geometry processing capability. These shaders will replace the current input assembler, vertex shader, hull shader, tessellator, domain shader, and geometry shader stages.
Another new DirectX 12 feature is Sampler Feedback. Sampler Feedback is a hardware feature for recording which areas of a texture the GPU accessed during sampling operations. With Sampler Feedback, games can generate a Feedback Map during rendering which records what parts of which MIP levels need to be resident. This feature greatly helps with Texture Streaming and Texture-Space Shading. As such, it will be interesting to see if developers will use it to address stutters. Moreover, this could improve loading times when a game uses Texture Streaming.

Dungeon Siege receives a 887MB High Resolution ESRGAN Texture Pack, improving 500 textures
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/dungeo-siege-receives-a-887mb-high-resolution-esrgan-texture-pack-improving-500-textures/
AntonioR has shared an ESRGAN AI-enhanced high resolution texture pack for Dungeon Siege. This pack is 887MB in size and will update some of the game’s textures. Therefore, we highly recommend downloading it if you are still playing this RPG. (...) Going into more details, this texture pack contains about 500 new textures. Furthermore, the areas he worked on are: Farmlands, Stonebridge, Glacern (only buildings and items) and upper parts of Castle Ehb. As AntonioR said, this is around 15-20% of the game.

First Leia nude mod released for Star Wars Battlefront 2, available for download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/first-leia-nude-mod-released-for-star-wars-battlefront-2-available-for-download/
Star Wars: Battlefront 2 came out in 2017 and the first fully nude mod for Leia has just appeared online. To be honest, I was expecting this to come out within the first months of the game’s release. However, modders had initially a lot of trouble with Battlefront 2. As such, and after almost two whole years, the first nude mod is now available.
According to the modder, there are two versions of nude Leia: one which covers up the neckseam with a tasteful white flannel hood thingy and another that doesn’t. This mod features a lot of… ahem… details. I don’t expect anyone to get banned for using it, however we suggest avoiding it if you’re playing online.
>> If you want it, you'll have to look for it at the Nexus Mods Battlefront 2 section.

Electronic Arts is 'open' to bringing its games to the Epic Games Store
https://www.pcgamer.com/electronic-arts-is-open-to-bringing-its-games-to-the-epic-games-store/
Electronic Arts announced yesterday that it's going back to Steam, beginning with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which is already available for pre-purchase on the platform. It's been a good chunk of a decade since EA decided to go all-in on Origin, and some observers, such as in this Reddit thread (or our own comments on the announcement), took the change as an admission that its Origin strategy had failed.
But senior vice president and Origin general manager Mike Blank told GamesIndustry that's not the case: Origin has done well and has millions of users, he said, but EA is changing its approach "to become more open" with how it delivers its games.
(...)
As for whether that means EA Access could be made available through the Epic Games Store someday, Blank wouldn't commit but left open the possibility. "What I'll say today is we are open to new partnerships," he said. "While I don't have anything to announce today, we are always open to new partnerships that make sense for our players. So we'll see what the future holds."

Steam's big library update is now live for everyone
https://www.pcgamer.com/steams-big-library-update-is-now-live-for-everyone/
The updated Steam library that went into beta testing in September is now live for everyone. Valve announced today that the latest update to the release version of Steam incorporates the dramatically overhauled game library, and also makes the new Remote Play Together beta client available to everyone.
The Steam library update is really impressive: It looks better, makes information like playtime and achievements more clearly visible, and offers more organization and customization options than the old joint. More of the changes are related to Steam's social aspects than its storefront—making it easier to see what your friends are playing, for instance, and making in-game events easier to keep up with—but even if you use Steam almost exclusively as a launcher, it's a huge improvement over the old layout.

The modders behind Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines' Unofficial Patch are making an unofficial prequel
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-modders-behind-vampire-the-masquerade-bloodlines-unofficial-patch-are-making-an-unofficial-prequel/
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines is one of those games that's remembered so fondly, it's easy to forget what a mess it was when it launched. Developer Troika wasn't able to rectify those issues because sales were not good, forcing it to lay off virtually all its employees before closing down a few months later. But the underlying game was so excellent that fans got involved, releasing unofficial patches that fix bugs and restore cut content.
As Jody explained earlier this year, the Unofficial Patch is an essential part of playing the game—so essential, in fact, that Paradox, the publisher of the upcoming Bloodlines 2, tweeted an announcement of today's release of a new version.
"The Unofficial patch is a must for both new and long time fans of Bloodlines 1," it said. "Highlights in this update include Velvet's lap dance from the Clan Quest Mod and two unused musical pieces from the newly re-released Bloodlines 1 Official Soundtrack."
I love that modders are still finding ways to fix and improve a 15-year-old RPG, but what's even more interesting here is the release of Bloodlines Prelude 1. Developed by Werner Spahl, aka Unofficial Patch maker Wesp5, along with modders EntenSchreck and Hareishan, it's the first part of an episodic prequel that will lead into the events of the original game. The opening chapter casts the player as a human member of the Society of Leopold, an ancient organization dedicated to hunting and killing supernatural creatures; Wesp5 said that players will be vampires through the rest of the prequel chapters.

"Our goal is to put crossplay on all the PvP games we have, over time," he said (via Gamesindustry.biz). "That's well on the way."

Destiny 2's best exotic weapon is currently impossible to acquire
https://www.pcgamer.com/destiny-2s-best-exotic-weapon-is-currently-impossible-to-acquire/
Since the launch of New Light, the free-to-play version of Destiny 2, some players have effectively been locked out of earning what is widely regarded as the best damage dealing gun in the game: Izanagi's Burden. Originally introduced as part of the Season of the Forge, this exotic energy sniper rifle enables players to combine four bullets into a single super-powerful 'Honed Edge' shot. It's the current king of burst damage, and has become the go-to weapon in loadouts for much of the game's most difficult content.
Unfortunately, due to a bug related to the Forge activities which the gun's questline relies on, players hoping to acquire the weapon have been unable to make progress for nearly a month now.

Mortal Kombat 11 is the end of the story, but not the series

Mortal Kombat is blessed with a great, but completely ludicrous, story, with the latest entry using time travel to pit kombatants from past and present against each other in a big brawl to decide the fate of reality. Unfortunately, creative director Ed Boon says that Mortal Kombat 11 is the end of the story, though not the series.

One last thing: tomorrow is the All Saints day and, as in any festive day, my plan is to do absolutely nothing, and that includes the news.

So, if tomorrow you also have a free day, congratulations and I hope you enjoy your long weekend. And if you don't, don't worry, because weekend is just around the corner. But whether you're part of the first of the second group, I wish you a happy and gaming weekend.
