While working on the news, I've come across this PCGamer article that describes the work that tech site Rtings.com, that focus on TVs, Monitors and Headphones, has done with a burn-in test on several OLED monitors and TVs for the last year.

Here's the PCGamer article: https://www.pcgamer.com/one-year-later-this-ongoing-burn-in-test-shines-light-on-oled-displays/

And here's the Rtings video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOcLasaRCzY

The conclusion is that burn-ins will depend on the content you watch, specially if it features bright colours. CoD: WWII did well, FIFA 18 caused burn-ins, and if you watch a lot of news, and CNN in particular...

And another test confirming that burn in isn't a problem. Thank you.

Should be no worse than Plasma to be honest.

I think MicroLED will be the way forwards anyway rather than OLED.

Unity changes terms of service again, says Improbable is no longer in violation
https://www.pcgamer.com/unity-changes-terms-of-service-again-says-improbable-is-no-longer-in-violation/
In the wake of last week's blowup with Improbable over the use of the SpatialOS cloud platform in games built on the Unity engine, Unity has once again updated its terms of service, this time to state explicitly that developers are free to use any third-party service they want. CTO Joachim Ante said in a blog post that went up today that developers using Unity own the content of their games and "should have the right to put it wherever you want," and acknowledged that the December 5 TOS update that started the dispute with Improbable "didn't reflect this principle."

Nintendo Switch emulator, Yuzu, gets disk-based cache, sees tremendous performance improvements
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/nintendo-switch-emulator-gets-disk-based-cache/
Fans of the popular Nintendo Switch emulator, Yuzu, will be happy to know that the first videos showcasing the integration of a disk-based cache surfaced today on YouTube. BSOD Gaming has just released a video showcasing the new disk-based shader cache at work in Super Mario Odyssey running on the emulator.
In truth, the team at Yuzu has lately been making incremental improvements to their emulator at an astounding pace. The emulator was only able to play its first game in July 2018, and to have Super Mario Odyssey now at a fully playable state (from start to finish) is an admirable feat in itself.
However, the recent addition of a disk-based or loadable shader cache is a truly exciting development since this means your CPU should be able to access texture data at a much faster rate. The result is that multiple Switch games currently bootable on the emulator (Pokemon Let’s Go, Arms, Bayonetta, Splatoon, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild) should exhibit significant performance boosts in FPS.
An update has also been added to Yuzu’s asynchronous GPU emulation which means that rendering tasks can now be assigned to multiple cores on your CPU. The results speak for themselves in BSOD’s video as Super Mario Odyssey could run at over 100 FPS in certain parts (albeit on a very high-end PC).

Final Fantasy 9 receives an ESRGAN AI-enhanced Beta HD Texture Pack, available for download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/final-fantasy-9-receives-an-esrgan-ai-enhanced-beta-hd-texture-pack-available-for-download/
Since the reveal of ESRGAN, an AI technique that can enhance the textures of older games, a lot of gamers have been waiting for HD texture packs for the classic Final Fantasy games. And while there is currently one in the works for Final Fantasy 7, a beta version of an HD pack is currently available for download for Final Fantasy 9.
Created by ‘Ze PilOt’, this AI-enhanced HD texture pack can be downloaded from here. Now since this is a beta release, the modder stated that there might be some issues with it.
For example, gamers may experience corrupted backgrounds or bad animations. In case you experience such issues, you should report them to the modder (obviously with a screenshot and the location).

Thankfully though, a group of people has released a new special version that takes advantage of the RTX GPUs.
Q2VKPT is described as the first playable game that is entirely raytraced and efficiently simulates fully dynamic lighting in real-time. https://www.dsogaming.com/news/quake-1-5-beta-is-available-for-download-expands-campaign-adds-gore-new-enemies-and-more/
Earlier this week we shared a trailer for Quake 1.5 and today we are happy to report that its debut beta version is available for download. Quake 1.5 is a Darkplaces addon mod for the original Quake that utilizes Seven’s SMC 5.30 as a base and has been expanded to include new features such as weapons, gore, and enemies.
In addition to the new enemies in Quake 1.5, players can expect some new content as well. The existing boss fights have been redone and there are 2 new episode bosses with their own respective levels, as well as a well hidden secret level with an entrance hidden in one of the existing quake levels.
According to the modder, Quake 1.5 requires a 2017 build of Darkplaces (that you can download from here), and is not designed with RT world lighting in mind so performance in real-time mode may vary wildly.

Who needs a horse when you can ride through Skyrim on a motorcycle?
https://www.pcgamer.com/who-needs-a-horse-when-you-can-ride-through-skyrim-on-a-motorcycle/
You know what the problem with a horse is? It only has one horsepower. One! It's pathetic. That's why you should upgrade to a hog—by which I mean a motorcycle. This mod for Skyrim and Skyrim Special Edition adds a Dwarven motorcyle so you can cruise around the world in style, full throttle.
The mod even lets you choose how you'd like it to sound: it can make standard Dwarven machinery noises, or sound like a real motorcycle. The gif above, by the way, is made from this video by Arctic Scrolls, which is pretty funny if you watch the whole thing.
>> A horse has more than 1HP, just saying.

Legendary Half-Life mod Sven Co-op turns 20 years old
https://www.pcgamer.com/legendary-half-life-mod-sven-co-op-turns-20-years-old/
Half-Life, released at the end of 1998, did not have cooperative gameplay. That was unacceptable to Sven Viking, who on January 19th, 1999 released beta 0.8 of his mod Sven Co-op, a proof of concept multiplayer modification consisting of a single level of the campaign. Today, 20 years later, Build 3482406 of Sven Co-op is available. That’s exciting, unless, like me, it makes you feel the inevitable march of time and the looming of the grave all the more keenly.
>> The Sven Co-op mod is available from Steam.

Dragon Age: Origins has a huge fan patch that fixes 790 bugs
https://www.pcgamer.com/dragon-age-origins-has-a-huge-fan-patch-that-fixes-790-bugs/
While we're busy speculating about the next Dragon Age game, the first in the series continues to be modded and tweaked. The Dragon Age: Origins modding community has been hard at work fixing the RPG's bugs and broken bits for years, apparently. A patch of fan fixes is available on Nexus Mods, called Qwinn’s Ultimate DAO Fixpack, that attempts to fix every single bug in scripting, quests, plot, dialogue and more.
The nice thing is that this isn’t a patch that overhauls the game, adding new items and weird new quests. It also doesn’t try to overhaul DAO’s notoriously wonky combat balance, leaving that just as BioWare did. For better or for worse, this is very much the same game that was released—it just, you know, works better. It seems like a must-have for people who loved Dragon Age and want to experience it again. (Or for the first time.)

Medieval 2’s Elder Scrolls mod gets ever deeper in 2.0 update
https://www.pcgamer.com/medieval-2s-elder-scrolls-mod-gets-ever-deeper-in-20-update/
The modders behind Medieval 2: Total War + The Elder Scrolls mashup The Elder Scrolls: Total War are going ever deeper into the lore of Tamriel, adding mercenary armies to represent minor factions and races across the map. The upcoming 2.0 update will introduce three new armies after nearly four years of development on the mod. (PC Gamer first reported on the mod in March 2015.) This new patch will add Skyrim’s infamous Reachmen, the Tsaesci serpent-men, and the Clockwork City of Sotha Sil as factions that you can recruit to your cause by fulfilling certain quests on the strategic map. To recruit the Reachmen, for example, you have to unite their territories in southwest Skyrim and then release their leader, Madanach, from the Sidna mines where he’s being held prisoner. It’ll earn you the enmity of Ulfric Stormcloak, however.

Gameplay footage from the cancelled version of True Crime: Hong Kong/Sleeping Dogs
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/gameplay-footage-from-the-cancelled-version-of-true-crime-hong-kong-sleeping-dogs/
Sleeping Dogs was one of the most beautiful and cool open-world games in the previous generation. Inspired by movies like Infernal Affairs, this game put you in the shoes of an undercover police offer that has to infiltrate – and destroy from the inside – the Sun On Yee Triad organization.
However, there was a time when Sleeping Dogs (before Square Enix acquiring it, when it was known as True Crime: Hong Kong) was cancelled by Activision. In 2011, Activision decided to pull the plug and cancel True Crime: Hong Kong due to numerous delays and budget issues. Thankfully, Square Enix acquired the rights and YouTube’s ‘NeoGamer’ has shared all the gameplay footage that was shown for that cancelled version of Sleeping Dogs.

Totally Reliable Delivery Service is a game about a delivery service that is actually not totally reliable. Star Control: Origins is back on Steam
https://www.pcgamer.com/star-control-origins-removed-from-steam-after-dmca-takedown-notice/
The designers of 1990 MS-DOS game Star Control have issued a DMCA takedown notice against Star Control: Origins, Stardock's RPG reboot of the series. The game has been removed from Steam and Stardock expects it will be removed from GOG, too.
Update: More than two weeks after it was removed, Star Control: Origins is back on Steam. It's not known what changed to enable the game's return, and Stardock CEO Brad Wardell said on Twitter that he's not able to discuss the matter publicly.
Star Control: Origins currently remains unavailable on GOG, however. I've reached out to Star Control creators Fred Ford and Paul Reiche for comment, and will update if I receive a reply.

Warframe dev says cross-play is 'one of the highest-risk things we can do'

During a Warframe developer livestream on Twitch, one viewer asked whether Warframe, which recently launched on Switch and is consistently one of the biggest games on PC, would ever have cross-play. But the reality, creative director Steve Sinclair explains, is very complicated.

Overcoming alien goo in full 3D looks great in Creeper World 4 trailer
https://www.pcgamer.com/overcoming-alien-goo-in-full-3d-looks-great-in-creeper-world-4-trailer/
Creeper World is probably one of the more niche real time games series out there, a series about overcoming an endless tide of world-devouring alien goop. Despite the rudimentary visuals, they’re a wonderful games about trying to overcome the dual challenges of an enemy that never stops coming and the logistics needed to fuel a war machine that can never stop fighting.

https://www.pcgamer.com/space-dwarf-co-op-shooter-deep-rock-galactic-lays-out-2019s-new-features-and-updates/
It has been a bit since we peered down the mine shaft at co-op, Left 4 Dead-like shooting and mining experience Deep Rock Galactic, but it’s still chugging along (and still a pretty good game) without us. Like a vast spoil heap beside the space mines, Deep Rock just keeps accumulating features and updates, and it doesn’t seem like the developers have any intention of stopping soon. In fact, it’s clear they don’t, as a recent post lays out their intentions for an upcoming anniversary update and difficulty rework. Further, the post hints at updates and features to come later this year.

New management and building game Meeple Station has a cool premise for those who’ve sunk hundreds of hours into colony builders like Dwarf Fortress and Rimworld: space stations. (It’s me, for the record. I’ve sunk the hundreds of hours in.) Meeple Station is a new game from Regions of Ruin developers Vox Games and released into Early Access this week. In it, players manage a space station from nothing to thriving enterprise by mining, trading, growing hydroponic crops, generating power and life support, and exploring uncharted star systems.

Disjunction is a pretty cyberpunk game that crosses Deus Ex and Hotline Miami
https://www.pcgamer.com/disjunction-is-a-pretty-cyberpunk-game-that-crosses-deus-ex-and-hotline-miami/
Disjunction is my most surprising new game of the year so far, a cyberpunk stealth action game with a solid art style and some pretty good writing, at least by the standards of such things. After playing the alpha demo, I would say that it’s like if Hotline Miami and Deus Ex had a baby. It inspires quite a bit of confidence in first-time developers Ape Tribe Games.

Ring of Elysium, a recent free-to-play addition to the increasingly crowded battle royale genre, straddles the unique overlap between extreme sports and to-the-death combat. While players have thus far been limited to slinging guns on snowboards and snowmobiles across a single snow-covered map, "season two"—which launches January 16—moves the action to warmer climes.

Treyarch confirms Black Ops 4 Blackout's next limited time mode

The leak was apparently spotted on the Call of Duty companion app and captured by Reddit user carkeys11 and posted to Reddit. According to the screenshot, Ambush will only give players the choice of sniper rifles and melee weapons, meaning the Skulker and Dead Silence perks will be 'a lot more valuable.' Outlander will come into its own too because apparently, 'once the circle starts collapsing, it never stops.' Yikes!

Red Dead Redemption already runs faster on Xenia than on Xbox 360 with almost perfect graphics
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/red-dead-redemption-already-runs-faster-on-xenia-than-on-xbox-360-with-almost-perfect-graphics/
Last week, we informed you about Xenia, the best emulator for Xbox 360, running Red Dead Redemption. While that version of the X360 emulator was able to run the game, it was plagued by some awful vegetation glitches. Fast forward a week though and here we are with a newer version that can run the game better and has those vegetation issues fixed.
Red Dead Redemption still has some minor graphical issues on Xenia (like the flickering smoke effects) however I believe that we can all agree that it is playable. Now I don’t know whether there are any graphical issues with the later stages or whether the emulator can run the game from start to finish, however things are looking pretty good right now.

This mod brings the Xenomorph Queen from Alien to Monster Hunter World
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/this-mod-brings-the-xenomorph-queen-from-alien-to-monster-hunter-world/
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; Monster Hunter World has a lot of modding potential. Even though the game features a respectable amount of monsters, modders can replace the existing ones with some other monsters/animals from iconic movies. We’ve seen this with the Lion King mod and today we are presenting you an Alien Queen mod for it.
Modder ‘UberGrainy’ has released this mod that replaces Xeno’jiiva with the Xenomorph Queen from Alien. The modder has used this model for the Queen, although he removed the chest arms so that it’s less confusing where the chest weak point is.
All you have to do in order to install this mod is download it from here and then unzip the archive of your choice (with folders) into “SteamSteamappscommonMonster Hunter World” (or where you have installed Monster Hunter World). And that’s it.

System Shock Remake – Unreal Engine 4 vs Unity Engine Video Comparison

YouTube’s ‘Cycu1’ has shared a video comparison between the Unreal Engine 4 and the Unity Engine versions of System Shock Remake. In case you weren’t aware of, Nightdive Studios initially planned to develop this highly anticipated remake in Unity Engine (and released a demo for it). However, the team then decided to switch over to Unreal Engine 4.
