https://www.dsogaming.com/news/the-first-game-using-the-new-valeroa-anti-tamper-tech-city-patrol-police-has-already-been-cracked/

As Valeroa’s developer claimed, the purpose of this new anti-tamper tech is to protect a game during its first days of release. And… well… it partially did manage to protect City Patrol: Police, though it appears to be not as effective as Denuvo is.

Leisure Suit Larry creator Al Lowe is selling his archive, including Sierra source code
https://www.pcgamer.com/leisure-suit-larry-creator-al-lowe-is-selling-his-archive-including-sierra-source-code/
Al Lowe worked on a number of games during Sierra's glory days, but it was Leisure Suit Larry that made him a legend. The thoroughly skeevy (yet somehow likable) polyester aficionado is probably Sierra's most enduring character, and in fact a new Larry game, Wet Dreams Don't Dry, was released just this month. (And defying all expectations, it's actually pretty good.)
"I'm 72 and none of my kids want this junk," Lowe said. He's currently got just four items listed on eBay, but there's apparently going to be a lot more coming, and not for cheap. The source code for the original Leisure Suit Larry is currently sitting at $1525, while the LSL2 source is at $2100; if that's out of your reach, there's a Sierra Christmas Card for $158 (you can see a video of those in action on YouTube) or the cheapest one of the lot, a Softporn Adventure floppy that's $128.

Unfortunately for those players, the update won't make any direct changes to either, but EA said it's planning to begin experimenting with it soon.

Stardew Valley going it alone after creator splits with publisher
https://www.pcgamer.com/stardew-valley-going-it-alone-after-creator-splits-with-publishing-partner/
Stardew Valley's creator Eric Barone, aka ConcernedApe, will begin self-publishing the game later this month following a partial split with publishing partner Chucklefish.
It's an amicable divorce: Barone said on his developer blog that he needed Chucklefish when he released the game because he was an industry novice, but now he feels like he's ready to go it alone. "I think self-publishing is the end-goal of most indie developers, and I’m happy to be in a place where that’s possible," he said, adding that we can expect more announcements about the future of the game "soon".

NVIDIA PhysX, the most popular physics simulation engine on the planet, is going open source. Physics simulation dovetails with AI, robotics and computer vision, self-driving vehicles, and high-performance computing."

"It's foundational for so many different things we've decided to provide it to the world in an open source fashion. Meanwhile, we're building on more than a decade of continuous investment in this area to simulate the world with ever greater fidelity, with on-going research and development to meet the needs of those working in robotics and with autonomous vehicles."

A Steam bug has reportedly halved the revenue of some indie developers
https://www.pcgamer.com/a-steam-bug-has-reportedly-halved-the-revenue-of-some-indie-developers/
In October, Valve introduced a bug into Steam’s Discovery feature that made it recommend large, popular games instead of more relevant ones, according to developers affected by the problem. While the bug was apparently squashed quite quickly, the impact has remained, with a significant number of indie developers reporting a reduction in traffic and sales.
The issue has been going on for two months and there’s a forum thread (only developers who log in can read it) detailing it, but if you’re not a Steam developer, you can also read Shadowhand and Ancient Enemy developer Jake Birkett’s detailed account.
>> It's interesting that we know about this just days after learning that Valve will give big publishers more money, pissing off the indie scene.

Spend your Ubisoft Club points soon or they'll start to vanish
https://www.pcgamer.com/spend-your-ubisoft-club-points-soon-or-theyll-start-to-vanish/
You probably don’t think about Ubisoft Club points (which they insist on calling ‘units’) very often. They’re earned in-game for completing challenges, but there are so many opportunities to earn them that you’ll get plenty without going out of your way. They’re an unobtrusive way for Ubisoft to reward players without putting pressure on them. Recently, I used some to fill my ship in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey with an army of female assassins, so I’m generally pro Ubisoft Club points. Unfortunately, Ubisoft has now decided to give the points a two-year shelf life that kicks in next year. Your points are going to start vanishing.
“Beginning April 1, 2019, you have 24 months to redeem the Club Units you acquired through your gaming experience or by making eligible purchases on the Ubisoft Store,” Ubisoft warns in its FAQ. “After 24 months, these Club Units will expire and will automatically disappear from your Ubisoft Account. Each time you redeem Club Units, the oldest Club Units will be redeemed first.”
>> I better take a look at how many points I have and what can I do with them. And not because I care about them, but because I don't want to stupidly miss them.

Epic Games is starting a store to rival Steam
https://www.pcgamer.com/epic-games-is-starting-a-store-to-rival-steam/
Fortnite developer Epic Games is launching a new online shop called Epic Games Store. The store will offer an 88/12 percent developer-to-Epic revenue split, compared to a 70/30 split on Steam for devs earning less than a certain amount. The Epic Games Store is launching soon with a collection of titles that will expand throughout 2019.
Epic is leaning hard on the revenue split disparity between Steam and their new store. CEO Tim Sweeney tells MCV that “In our analysis, stores charging 30 per cent are marking up their costs by 300 to 400 per cent." The announcement also came with a graph to push the point.
Games using any engine will be allowed on the store, though Epic will waive the licence charge for games that use its Unreal Engine.
>> And another one joins the battle. I wonder what will happen to their current Epic Games store.

If you haven't been following the Fallout 76 news, there was a rather large uproar about the duffel bag that shipped with the $200 Power Armor Edition. The bag was advertised as canvas, but it was replaced with a cheap-looking nylon version with no warning from Bethesda beforehand. Naturally, Fallout 76's biggest spenders were unhappy about this bag-switching, and Bethesda's solution of giving a measly 500 Atoms as compensation for that substandard bag just made things worse.
Now, it looks like Bethesda is going to make good on its original promise of delivering a canvas bag, though there's still a certain amount of work customers will have to do to make it happen
>> It probably has something to do with them being in a position where they can be sued for false advertising and things like that, but good on them.
