Monday's massive part two of the news:
New trailers from the Golden Joystick Awards

https://www.pcgamer.com/smite-paladins-and-realm-royale-are-all-getting-cross-play/
Today, at the Hi-Rez Expo, Hi-Rez Studios announced that most of its games would introduce cross-platform play soon, no longer locking players behind impenetrable walls. Smite, Paladins and Realm Royale, which is still in early access, will all include cross-play.
THQ Nordic keeps on growing
https://www.pcgamer.com/thq-nordic-keeps-on-growing/
It was a big week for THQ Nordic, which is quietly continuing the process of building itself into something of a mid-tier gaming colossus. The past few days have seen it pick up Wreckfest studio Bugbear Entertainment, and Coffee Stain, the maker of Sanctum, Satisfactory, and, yes, Goat Simulator. It's also now the proud owner of the Expeditions strategy-RPG series, and has announced plans to begin work on a third game (after Conquistadors and Vikings) with original developer Logic Artists.
>> I'm starting to wonder where the f*ck do they get the money from to buy so many studios, so often.

https://www.pcgamer.com/smites-new-arena-map-is-live-now-complete-with-angry-minotaurs/
Smite, Hi-Rez’s deity ‘em up, is getting quite a bit bigger. Today, the developer announced a Switch version, cross-platform play and progression, a bunch of new heroes and gods and, finally, a new map for the popular arena mode. Good heavens!
Update: At the Hi-Rez Expo, Pip spoke with AJ Walker and Richard Yu, Smite's lead designer and brand manager, and managed to get more details about the MOBA's upcoming mythical brawlers: King Arthur, Merlin, Horus and Set.

Final Fantasy 14’s next major expansion, called Shadowbringers, was just announced live during the annual Final Fantasy 14 Fanfest. Coming in the summer of 2019, Shadowbringers will add a much darker story, a whole new zone to explore, and multiple new classes (called jobs)—including the Blue Mage, one of FF14’s most requested.
Fortnite beats out Red Dead Redemption 2 for Golden Joysticks' Game of the Year
https://www.pcgamer.com/fortnite-beats-out-red-dead-redemption-2-for-golden-joysticks-game-of-the-year/
The Golden Joystick Awards have determined that Subnautica, the undersea survival sim that is really a horror game in disguise (and if you don't believe me, give it a try sometime and let me know how it goes), is the PC Game of the Year. CD Projekt's upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 took the title for Most Wanted Game, while Fortnite beat out not-on-PC heavyweight Red Dead Redemption 2 to claim the overall Game of the Year title.
>> Fortnite, GOTY?... How sad is that?
Cliff Bleszinski swears off making videogames forever
https://www.pcgamer.com/cliff-bleszinski-swears-off-making-videogames-forever/
It's hard to keep a good man down, especially one as obviously invested in the games industry as Bleszinski, and I said in May that I had no doubt that he'd return to the business one day. Yesterday, however, Bleszinski proved me wrong.
Watch the debut trailer for Beholder, a new project from the Papers, Please filmmakers
https://www.pcgamer.com/watch-the-debut-trailer-for-beholder-a-new-project-from-the-papers-please-filmmakers/
A short film based on the indie misery simulator Papers, Please was announced in 2017 and released earlier this year, and by all appearances it's every bit as bleak as you'd expect. (Also really good—check out that 96 percent positive rating across more than 9500 reviews on Steam.) Now the duo behind it, Nikita Ordynskiy and Liliya Tkach, are turning their filmmaking talents to a different game, Beholder, and it looks to be even bleaker.

https://www.pcgamer.com/fix-pubg-campaign-officially-over-devs-focusing-on-build-stability-from-now-on/
PUBG Corp's 'Fix PUBG' campaign, which aimed to combat the worst bugs and performance problems in the battle royale game, is now officially over.
The campaign, which the developer launched in August, has apparently tackled 100 bugs and quality of life improvements, boosted player fps, improved server performance and seen more than 2 million accounts banned through an anti-cheat push.

Star Citizen shoots past $200 million in crowdfunding ahead of free week
https://www.pcgamer.com/star-citizen-shoots-past-dollar200-million-in-crowdfunding-ahead-of-free-week/
Star Citizen has just zoomed past the $200 million crowdfunding mark. That monumental number looks even bigger when you put it alongside the biggest video game budgets of all times: only three other games—GTA 5, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Star Wars: The Old Republic—have ever had budgets of more than $200 million to play with.
>> Very impressive.
Frostpunk's free endless mode is due next week, and it's bigger than we expected
https://www.pcgamer.com/frostpunks-free-endless-mode-is-due-next-week-and-its-bigger-than-we-thought/
Brutal city builder Frostpunk is one of the best games of the year so far, and next week it will add a long-awaited endless mode that lets you grow your city for as long as you can stop your citizens freezing to death.
>> As always on Mondays, it's this week.

https://www.pcgamer.com/rapper-2-milly-considers-legal-action-against-epic-over-fortnite-dance-emote/
Rapper 2 Milly hopes to sue Epic Games over Fortnite's 'Swipe It' emote, which is based on his Milly Rock dance.
"They actually sell that particular move. It's for purchase. That's when I really was like...oh nah, this can't go on too long," he told CBS.
>> And Scrub's Donald Faison isn't happy with Fortnite either for the same reason.
Fallout 76's VATS makes it tough for the Mysterious Stranger to be mysterious
https://www.pcgamer.com/fallout-76s-vats-makes-it-tough-for-the-mysterious-stranger-to-be-mysterious/
I leveled up in Fallout 76 today and immediately scrolled through my Luck perk cards, as I always do. There are other attributes in my SPECIAL that need far more attention, but I always begin with Luck, because ever since I first stepped out of the Vault I've been looking for one perk card in particular. And today, I found it. Finally! The Mysterious Stranger!
Fallout 76 players launch 3 nukes at once, crash server
https://www.pcgamer.com/fallout-76-players-launch-3-nukes-at-once-crash-server/
This week we learned what happens when you launch one of Fallout 76's nukes at a fissure site: you spawn a really big, high level Scorchbeast Queen and a bunch of end-game loot. Well, the players who launched that nuke decided to triple their efforts by launching three nukes, one from each of the missile silos, all at the same time. They fired their nukes and aimed them at the same spot on the map. The video above shows the triple mushroom cloud.
Unfortunately, the three simultaneous detonations may have been too much for Fallout 76 to cope with: the server crashed (or at least everyone got disconnected) a minute later, before the team could see if a Scorchbeast Queen three times the size of the last one would emerge from the ashes.
>> Well, this website that decrypts Fallout 76 nuke launch codes won't help to avoid that.
Battlefield 5 players report game freezes when they check a specific menu
https://www.pcgamer.com/battlefield-5-players-report-game-freezes-when-they-check-a-specific-menu/
Battlefield 5 players have discovered a bug that can freeze your game if you click the 'Assignments' section of the in-game pause menu.
Players are reporting that the error either causes the game to blur or to fade to black, and the only way to fix it is to Alt+F4 out. It's not happening all the time, or to every player, but it sounds infuriating.
Valve responds after Artifact community slams 'pay for everything' model
https://www.pcgamer.com/artifact-community-slams-pay-for-everything-monetisation-model/
Artifact's public beta launches tomorrow, but many would-be players have lost their appetite for Valve's digital card game because of its monetisation model. A Reddit post from yesterday that encourages players to cancel their pre-orders is now the top post of all-time on the Artifact subreddit, while numerous other popular threads are slamming the payment model, described as "pay for everything you do".
Update: Valve has addressed some (but not all) of the complaints in a blog post. The next beta update, coming today, will include the option to play Call to Arms Phantom Draft events in user-created tournaments, as well as a Casual Phantom Draft gauntlet to practice drafting without spending a ticket. Before the beta ends, Valve will also add "a system that allows extra, unwanted cards to be recycled into event tickets," so that low value cards aren't a total waste. The developer hasn't commented on requests for card trading or the difficulty of winning card packs.
