Geforce 1060 is killing it.

Edit: Radeon RX 680 rumors are starting to trickle out. Based on polaris, but at the "12nm" advertised node with an expected gain of 15% over the RX 580, which in turn had hardly anything over the RX 480 anyway. Way to stagnate AMD.

15%, that hurts.
It better be very cheap if they want to sell their cards at that level of performance.

I'd like to see how 7nm Vega performs in games though.
That'd probably be a pretty decent product.
With a 4096-bit memory bus and a new process node, it should be able to overcome the problems its predecessors faced.

Steam Stats for June are in.

GTX Pascal is still going strong... the GTX 1050 joined the top 3 of most popular GPUs (this month it is a tie with the falling GTX 960, next month it won't have to share that third place).

The top 3 (GTX 1060 + 1050 TI + 1050) already has a share of 26% and the successor series ain't even announced yet.

For comparison: two years ago (at Pascal launch) the top 3 (GTX 970 + 960 + 750 Ti) only had a share of 12%... of a much smaller hardware base.

Thanks, Conina.

Mid-range cards are always the most popular ones, so it's not surprising to see the 1060 and 1050 family doing well. But doing so well is impressive. Of course, one could say that those miners buying AMD cards helped with those numbers, as those cards aren't going into a gaming rig, but even then Nvidia would still win by quite some margin.

AMD has a serious problem with rebranding. It already happened with the first GCN cards, rebranding those HD7xxx cards three or four times until they reached the R5 3x0 parts, and now they're doing the same again, only this time with a small transistor jump that won't really make all that much in the grand scheme of things, specially considering that Nvidia will launch their next gen of cards in September.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nvidia's 1150 parts end up being on par, if not faster, than those "new" RX 680 cards.

Fortnite surpasses $300 million in a single month, Battlefront 2 microtransactions not received well
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/fortnite-surpasses-300-million-in-a-single-month-battlefront-2-microtransactions-not-received-well/
SuperData Arcade has shared its monthly report, claiming that Fortnite has finally surpassed $300 million in a single month. Moreover, and even though EA has re-introduced micro-transactions in Battlefront 2, the game’s additional content in May fell short of the levels seen across other top games this year.
In other news, SuperData Arcade claimed that consumers spent an estimated $9.1 billion digitally across all platforms, up from $7.3 billion last May. The biggest growth driver was Mobile, which was up 36% year-over-year, while Free-To-Play Console contributed an incremental $200 million due to Fortnite.

The Humble Store's DRM Freedom Sale is live
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-humble-stores-drm-freedom-sale-is-live/
For those of you who aren't satisfied with throwing money at the still-ongoing Steam Summer Sale, the Humble Store has some very good deals on the table in the DRM Freedom Sale that kicked off today.
There's no great, unifying theme here as far as I can see, except that all of the games in the sale are provided through Steam keys and are DRM-free—thus the title of the sale. Most of us will probably just chuck in the Steam keys and be done with it, but I can think of at least one anti-DRM purist who will be happy to avoid all that.

At GOG, the daily deal is Tangledeep, 25% off: https://www.gog.com/game/tangledeep

MODS/EMULATORS

Mass Effect 3 Field of View mod is now available for download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/mass-effect-3-field-of-view-mod-is-now-available-for-download/
While Mass Effect 3 disappointed a lot of fans, I think we can all agree that it was a better game than Mass Effect Andromeda. And for those interested in replaying it, modder ‘Paradoxaction’ released a Field of View mod that will enable you to see more of the 3D world around you while in combat, thus making it easier to be aware of the enemies surrounding you.
This mod comes packed as a MOD file. To install it, you need to use Mod Maker, which is a tool that comes packed with ME3 Explorer (you can read Mod Maker documentation for more information on how to install MOD files). Use Mod Maker to install the MOD file you downloaded here and you’re good to go. However, you should make sure to backup your SFXGame.pcc file before you install this mod, as Mod Maker will permanently overwrite it when installing the mod.

>>If you want to try it, the mod is available from Nexus Mods.

New version released for Static Mesh Improvement Mod; overhaul that improves countless static 3D models in Skyrim
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/new-version-release-for-static-mesh-improvement-mod-overhaul-that-improves-countless-static-3d-models-in-skyrim/
Our very own Brumbek has released a new version of his amazing Static Mesh Improvement Mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. In this new version, Brumbek edited all new candle meshes I used from Ruins Clutter Improved to use custom SMIM candle directory paths, created new proper collision for all Imperial Jail meshes and fixed various issues.
In case you weren’t aware of, the Static Mesh Improvement Mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim edits many 3D models to improve their appearance and to fix many of the ugly seams and other oddities. Brumbek started in February 2012 with the ultimate goal of improving about 500 of the worst offenders and in June 2014 750+ meshes have been completed. In 2016, the mod included over 15,000 placements of said meshes and in October 2016 900+ meshes were improved, with over 30,000+ placements.

>>The mod is also available from Nexus Mods.

Rolly Souls mod makes rolling the only way to move in Dark Souls
https://www.pcgamer.com/rolly-souls-mod-makes-rolling-the-only-way-to-move-in-dark-souls/
People have been doing unbelievable things in Dark Souls for years. Speedrunners have finished the game without taking damage, without leveling up, and without taking damage or leveling up. One challenge that's always stood out to me is the idea of finishing the game without rolling, not just because every cell in my body vehemently rejects the idea, but because the opposite—exclusively rolling—sounds hilarious and much more fun. Thanks to modder notaprofi, creator of the newly released Rolly Souls mod, PC players can now attempt just that.
As notaprofi explains on Nexus Mods, Rolly Souls disables walking, jogging and sprinting in the original Dark Souls. You can only move by rolling. Well, that and via the advances and shuffles of attack animations, but rolling is your bread and butter. It sounds pretty silly, and it most certainly is, but it would also make managing your stamina much harder, so I reckon it'd be a pretty difficult way to play. The only caveat is that some human characters, like Havel the Rock or NPC black phantoms, can also only move by rolling. Then again, 1v1 Dark Souls fights are pretty much constant rolling anyway, so you might not even notice the difference.

I've put 400 hours into Rainbow Six Siege. This weekend, a teammate said something I've never heard before:
"Hey, will one of you guys please play Tachanka?"
But my teammate's request was serious: against all reason, we needed a Tachanka. As we got into the match, they explained why, describing a technique that sounded so ridiculous that I was convinced they were trolling. "Get on and off Tachanka's turret like five or six times, and you'll get a speed boost," the teammate promised.

Fortnite adware virus discovered in purported aimbot/V-Bucks hack
https://www.pcgamer.com/fortnite-adware-virus-discovered-in-purported-aimbotv-bucks-hack/
Late last month, the operators of the game streaming service Rainway noticed something unusual: Hundreds of thousands of error reports began appearing on its tracker for no apparent reason. The errors were the result of attempted calls to ad platforms, "an immediate red flag," as CEO Andrew Sampson explained in this blog post, because the service doesn't run ads. Further investigation eventually narrowed the compromised users down to a single commonality: They all played Fortnite.
Eventually the search paid off in the form of a purported aimbot that also promised to generate free V-Bucks—sweet candy indeed. But of course it wasn't what it appeared to be. When run on a virtual machine, "it immediately installed a root certificate on the device and changed Windows to proxy all web traffic through itself," Sampson wrote, describing it as "a successful Man in the Middle Attack."

RyujiNX, the best Nintendo Switch emulator, can now run Disgaea 5 and Axiom Verge
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/ryujinx-the-best-nintendo-switch-emulator-can-now-run-disgaea-5-and-axiom-verge/
The Nintendo Switch emulator, RyujiNX, keeps getting better and better. This Nintendo Switch emulator can already boot some triple-A Nintendo games, like Super Mario Odyssey and Splatoon 2, and can now run two new games; Axiom Verge and Disgaea 5.
Now I’m pretty sure that some will not be impressed at all with this latest version of RyujiNX running Axiom Verge and Disgaea 5. And that’s because emulation is not perfect yet. However, I think we should remind you that this emulator has been under development for almost three months. So yeah, this is a really impressive progress.

You can finally play Super Mario 64 with 60fps and proper physics on the PC via N64 emulators
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/you-can-finally-play-super-mario-64-with-60fps-and-proper-physics-on-the-pc-via-n64-emulators/
Super Mario 64 is a classic 3D platformer that came out on Nintendo 64. This Mario game was locked at 30fps and while some emulator could run the game with 60fps, they had incorrect/bugged physics. Thankfully, Kaze Emanuar released a new romhack/mod for Super Mario 64 that allows gamers to finally experience it with 60fps and proper physics.
In this latest version of his mod, Kaze Emanuar fixed most physics so they can work at proper speed, fixed all known crashes (all stars are now collectible), fixed the animations that weren’t interpolated properly, fixed the sliding, fixed the lag, fixed the blinking from damage, fixed the intro stuff and fixed some global timer stuff.
Those interested can download the Super Mario 64 60fps mod from here.

PT for PC is a faithful recreation of the world's creepiest corridor
https://www.pcgamer.com/pt-for-pc-is-a-faithful-recreation-of-the-worlds-creepiest-corridor/
It's been almost four years since PT, the "playable teaser" for Konami's since-canceled horror game Silent Hills, was released on the PlayStation Network, and well over three years since it was taken down, never to be seen again. Yet its legend has endured: Silents Hills never saw the light of day, but PT quickly became a horror classic in its own right—brief, but brilliant.
Because of that, efforts to resurrect it have persisted, most recently in the form of PT for PC. The trip down the world's worst memory lane was created by a first-time game maker called Qimsar, who said in this Reddit thread that they only had about six hours of experience with the Unreal Engine (plus about one hour on GameMaker and 35 hours on Unity) prior to starting the project.
PT for PC is a 1GB download from Game Jolt, and it's good—there's not a lot to it, but there wasn't a lot to the original either, and it's still creepy as hell. It's kind of sad, then, that Qimsar felt the need to preemptively excuse the state of the work.

Compatible with other Fallout 4 visual enhancers such as True Storms, Vivid Weathers, NAC—and, as its creator explains here, Extreme Particles Overhaul—Visceral ENB is a lovely preset. It's subtle tweaks provide a realistic and natural slant on the game's base landscapes.

https://www.pcgamer.com/why-wrecking-ball-is-awkward-to-say-and-other-reasons-overwatch-fans-prefer-hammond/#comment-jump
Overwatch fans are pretty much in agreement that the new hero Wrecking Ball, a spherical mech piloted by a genius hamster named Hammond, is cool. He's a fast, cute tank who reinforces the idea that the Overwatch universe is built on fun, not deadpan seriousness. There's just one little problem: lots of players hate the name Wrecking Ball. More to the point, many players would prefer Blizzard officially change his hero name to Hammond—so much so that someone started a petition for just that.

>>Hammond? Really? Can we all agree that whoever came with the name is a fan of Top Gear/The Grand Tour?

We Happy Few gets approved for Australia
https://www.pcgamer.com/we-happy-few-gets-approved-for-australia/
Australia turned the thumbs-down on We Happy Few in May, citing the game's incentivized drug use—players take a faux-narcotic called "Joy" in order to blend in with society and avoid being murdered—as too far over the line for approval. Last week, however, the Classification Board announced that it would reconsider the ruling, and today it revealed that the appeal has been successful.

A handful of Hearthstone minions will be changed in the next major update to bring their types more in line with their appearances and place in Warcraft lore. Molten Giant and Mountain Giant, for instance, are both being reclassified as Elemental minions, which adds flexibility to Elemental decks and "also makes more sense from a visual standpoint—these lumbering towers of magma and stone are the epitome of Elementals."

The skin can otherwise only be purchased with Siege's real-money currency, cannot be earned through the normal drop system, and are only available until July 17. This is the second such temporary cosmetic pack, following the Outbreak packs we saw earlier this year.

South Korea is getting its own version of Destiny 2. Dubbed Destiny: Guardians, it's effectively the same game available in the west, except for one crucial difference: it has a different Eververse vendor.
The Destiny 2 Eververse is an in-game store which sells various cosmetic items using real world currency, but South Koreans will get a different version. Gone is the familiar face of Tess Everis, and in her place will be Yuna. Unlike Tess Everis, Yuna sells XP boosts, weapons and armour, according to Eurogamer's translation of a Naver Sports report.
