Isn't the appeal of apps that, besides being free or dirt cheap, you can play them anywhere? Why is it assumed that people will leap at the chance to play phone games on a TV?

It all depends on what games Apple will put on it. We all know that Apple is sitting on mountains of cash so advertising won't be a problem. They could pose a threat to the big three if they put out high quality exclusives,. A new exclusive angry birds alone could probably sell it to the casuals and move millions of units.

I don't think this will be hugely impactful. I'm expecting Ouya's philosophy done right and on steroids.

Seriously though, Android consoles will appeal to a smaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal portion of gamers. I've seen companies like Sega and its Genesis/Mega Drive threaten Nintendo but Nintendo and Sony won't feel the least bit threatened by this Google console. That would be like Googl getting scared of the new Nintendo search engine or even better... Moogle.

I don't understand why everyone keeps mentioning Ouya. Ouya is kickstarter funded startup.

Think of a much more competent product like Nvidia Shield, which is a handheld, but also a full blown console with HDMI out. Nvidia shield should be a very compelling product...

Interesting. If it will offer the same freedom about SW choice as Windows, with coexistence of DD and physical, with or without DRM and not forcing anything by default, and at the same time breaking Windows monopoly on PC while staying a relatively lightweight OS (for PC standards), I'll be very interested for my personal use, otherwise I'll be less interested for my needs, but I'll still consider it a good thing as it will be more competition anyway.
Another interesting thing could be an Android subsystem running both on classic Linux distros and Windows.

It will do to game consoles what Chromebooks have done to the PC market.

Android for PC is stupid decision because the openness of the system so it can be hacked very easily due to lot of people try to run hacked apps and its not reliable at all. Also the android is taking the future in wrong way in some sense so i feel something big is going to happen within android soon which will affect the lives of people in better or worse(mostly)

Also these android games killing the quality and increasing in quantity, becoz its not simple to decide which game is good one from thousands of games even though most of them does very similar which takes away some time from our lives. Games should be limited with quality and it should not go the path of Apps.
