Forums - Gaming Discussion - You will need ~$650 bucks to match next gen consoles on PC

That's not exactly a fair statement... it is more of a RISC vs. CISC scenario... so yes it does do more cycles per second, but it also processes less complex data per cycle. There is a trade off for that speed.

You will find the i3 does more per cycle than any non-Intel CPU on the planet right now. There's no tradeoff. The RISC vs CISC 'debate' is 10+ years out of date.

True...i was talking purely when it comes to gaming and CPU bottlenecks there.

you forgot to add a mouse+keyboard in the prices i know theoretically they dont cost much but when it comes to gaming if you want a good M&K they could cost quiet a good sum!

True, but who doesn't own a M&K these days? Hell, if you own a wired 360 controller you don't even need to buy one of those either.

@disolitude: You kinda need to add Windows 8 into the price, don't you? You're not gonna be doing much gaming without it.

even i spent a $2k alienware PC also can't play any of next gen console exclusive titles...

@soleron:

I guess I'll have to refresh my research on the subject as I don't even remember what the acronyms stand for right now (drinking) I do know that one uses more complex (simpler for humans to write) code, and the other utilizes more simple (harder for humans to write) code. Last I checked Intel used the simple code, and AMD used the complex code. However, I do think in the near future when Intel starts releasing components utilizing their nano-fiber tubes there could be a whole new way to think about programming.

I've been a laptop only user for 5 years, and I have 2 mice and 2 keyboards. They're just so cheap. Everyone has them, and everyone's always getting rid of them, heh.

lol, now you're trying to make me feel bad. To be fair I did ignore your point on "good" mice. If you're a really hardcore PC gamer you're gonna at least want a good mouse, and that could cost a pretty penny. :D
:D

I'm a PC gamer that games 90% of gaming on PC games.  PS4's a great deal.

 You can build a cheaper PC than listed and match X1 quite closely. You can use your old controller on PC as in dualshock, or x360 controller, you don't have to update that every console gen. If you've never gamed before then I guess you have to buy it.

 Windows 8 isn't included either. You're not going to game on linux, unless you just like making things difficult for yourself with wine and a small amount of games. But, I've gotten free licenses in microsofts dreamspark program, etc. It's a cost they didn't list.

 The PS3 is excellent bang for your buck for gaming, barring RROD type issues which made my 400 dollar xbox 360 an 800 dollar xbox.
