Forums - Sony Discussion - The PlayStation Vita Is Set to Succeed (2011, IGN)

by Colin Moriarty OCTOBER 22, 2011

It may not come as much of a surprise coming from one of IGN's PlayStation editors, but my excitement for the PlayStation Vita is palpable. I've played Sony's upcoming handheld on numerous occasions since it was revealed and have had hands-on time with a plethora of games. And while I acknowledge that Sony has stumbled quite a few times during the PSP and PS3's lifecycle, things appear to be different this time around. Sony's emphasis seems to be on all the right things, and Vita is primed to do a lot better than people are expecting it to.

For better or for worse, Vita will be pitted against the Nintendo 3DS. But the comparison doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and even if you were to pit them against each other, Vita is still destined to sell better. That's because in addition to games (which Nintendo 3DS is still sorely lacking), it's also a much more powerful machine capable of doing a whole lot more than 3DS.
Nintendo isn't the primary competition for Sony this time around. The major complaint against something like Vita is that its space is being encroached upon by the phone and tablet market, and hence the real competition for Vita will come from Apple and Android devices. There's certainly something to be said about that. People are playing games on iOS in insane amounts. Hell, 30 million people play Angry Birds everyday. That poses a real problem for Sony.

The Nintendo 3DS is certainly not going to take the Vita out with N64 ports and tired, worn series.

What is the point of discussing a two year old article?

Hold up!  Let me dig some Pachter quotes/articles.

Vita is destined to sell better.

Lol.

That article is a good one, the real competition for vita is tablets and Phones in terms of Power/users where 3DS is old formula of their first party games so this won't have any new innovative games from future except milking Nintendo IP's and this doesn't has hardware power to be future proof. From next year Vita gonna shine with its hardware with the games of Sony first party Studios(since they are busy now with PS4 launch for first year) and being a handy companion of PS4.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

A lot of people on Vgchartz felt the same thing.

Nintendo has always been underestimated and Sony overrate in the videogame market. People already thought the PSP would destroy the DS. When the Vita was announced and then priced at 250$ while the 3DS was struggling, people already called this over, even before it started.

The Vita has no interesting exclusive games, has no upcoming lineup and is relegated as a second field console by Sony itself.

It's the fall of Sony handheld.

Ketzal's Corridors, Pushmo/Crashmo, Dillon's Rolling Western, Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword, Freakyforms: Your Creations, Alive!, Tokyo Crash Mobs, Rhythm Hunter: HarmoKnight, etc...

Yep, Nintendo just milks old IPs... No new IPs on 3DS eshop to see here!  Maybe if you actually knew a thing about the eshop then you wouldn't make such a false statement.  Next time perhaps you should study up on what you are going to state before someone calls you out on your bullshit.

Also, I laugh at your last sentence.

You are delusional.

Sony first party studio aren't even trying on Vita and their games don't sell.

Vita won't shine with no big exclusive games. Vita games aren't "innovative games from the future". They are concept, indie game, because no one else want to develop for it bigger games.

Sony will never be able to compete with Nintendo in the handheld business. Look at all the Nintendo handhelds... They've all succeeded. They're handhelds will always succeed. But Sony overrates? The PS1 and 2 have been very succeesful, not by luck. The PS3 came out a year late with a higher price tag and still managed to outesll the 360.

Well they announced an unprecedented early $80 price drop later that year so you can see where the writer is coming from.

It's just shows that you really can't predict much.
