"linear story-based game. We’re trying to tell a story. It’s what we call a filmic experience."

How original.

nothing will change this generation, it will get worse. Gameplay will get less and less important to the aaa developers....

I so love when people push a false dichotomy in order to further their own agenda.  As we all know, it is physically impossible to have a great story and good gameplay in the same game.  Simply can't be done.  I think Newton made a Law about it.

Of course, we haven't even seen the gameplay from The Order yet but what does that matter?

Never said anything about that. But games like this have almost no replay value. I just can't take it anymore millions of shooters and  millions of story driven cinematic games this new gen. atleast it looks like it (From AAA dev's). Also you can't deny that the gameplay often is behind cause of concentrating too much on movie bullsh*t.

So, I'm assuming you haven't played The Last Of Us?

and what did Last of Us in the gameplay department add? Nothing new, exactly.

It's not that it has to do anything new, it's that it takes things that have been done in other games, done before, combines them, and does them SO DAMN GOOD. I found The Last Of Us to be phenominal in not only the story, where it shines, but in the gameplay as well.

1.) The game was far less linear than the Uncharted games, but still directed you in order to support the excellent story.

2.) The gameplay mechanics were clearly immensely polished.

3.) The combat was steller, being able to asses the situation and deal with your enemies in a wide variety of ways.

4.) I absolutely LOVED the stealth aspect to the game, and what's cool about it is such a style of gameplay was completely optional.

5.) The real-time crafting system as well as resource management was, IMO, well executed.

I could go on, but what's the point? All I'm trying to say is, innovation and excellent gameplay still exists in big blockbuster AAA games, however when your focusing on the generic COD's, the games that push out the same nonsense every year, you're going to blind yourself from the gems that still make gaming so great.

I never said that the gameplay is bad, but when people are praising it as the best game ever I actually look for more then the typical polished experience I saw like 5 games ago. I don't know what's so hard to understand about my opinion. Doesn't affect the opinions of you guys in the slightest "Oh no, someony doesn't appreciate the game enough, kill him!" Hypocrites.

Well, I'd say the game is un-matched in terms of polish and balance between it's gameplay and story-telling. It's easily a GOTY contender, and IMO one of the best games, if not THE best game this generation. But maybe you would know that if you, yuh know, played the game.

Like I said, a polished game based on other games doesn't deserve the name Best Game Ever or Game of the decade. But this isn't a Last of Us thread. We should stop now. PM me if you want...Smart*** lol

As long as the whole experience is terrific who cares if it does not bring anything new?  But still I think the survival aspect in TLoU is really awesome and quite unique when you add it to an action adventure game in third person.

Aaaaaaaaand another one who has to defend the game. I heard it enough the last 30 Minutes. Send me PM's or whatever. The thread is too off topic already.

I don't think that the "Filmic Experience" approach is bad. It's a way to tell a story, as long as the gameplay is good I think we might have a solid game :)

Also that was only a trailer showing the potential of the game. We should wait until they unveil a gameplay trailer or something!

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

Oh dear, another modern-day "cinematic" experience.

It baffles me that people would see the beautiful world teased in the trailer, yet be disappointed that the game has a focus on narrative. Would you rather the world be vacuous, just a big arena for combat or platforming?

If you want pure gameplay and nothing else, maybe you should look at the indie line up or F2P titles. Alternatively pick up a Wii U.

I completely agree.

Just as original as Player driven games and arcade experiences.
