Several people in this thread didn't bother to even read the OP (as usual).

Couple points:

PS3 price was looking out for consumers because it was sold at a gigantic loss to Sony.
XBone priced at a profit, instead of at cost (according to Pachter in OP)

Understand the difference.

We seriously trusting Pachter when he says the Xbox One is priced at profit? He wouldnt know that, MS does.

You can choose whom to trust.

I go by the information presented by someone paid to know these figures.

Hes an analyst, so hes making a inherent "guess". But ok. Good to know youd stand by this guy, even if he were to say things you may not agree with in the future.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

xbox1 is pricy because MS really believes kinect will be a game changer. I'm skeptical, but open.

599 USD!!!!!!! Sony really put consumers first. Yeah, right~

Kutaragi wasn't thinking about price when he created the PS3. Sony was stuck with the decisions he made and he was replaced with a more aware tech savy developer. The cell was expensive, but the Blu Ray was the death sentence. It was worth it in the long run because now everyone can get their hands on Blu Ray and it wasnt just a benefit to Sony but the whole Blu Ray association. Kutaragi caused Sony to bleed through the teeth just to reach $600 with all the parts in the PS3.

Nothing you said was a real benefit to consumer. Sony pushed Bluray for the benefit of Sony.

The average consumer didn't care which format won the "format war." The average consumer doesn't even buy movies nowadays.

Sony had a ***MORE EXPENSIVE*** system at one time and pushed non-gaming blu-ray (well outside of the larger storage space on the disc, they were pushing blu-ray for their own agenda), a even worst launch line up (filled with sports games, Ridge Racer and Giant Enemy Crabs)

Does this launch line up look awesome to you?

Call of Duty 3 Activision
Genji: Days of the Blade
Madden NFL 07
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire
NBA 07
NBA 2K7
Need for Speed: Carbon
NHL 2K7
Resistance: Fall of Man
Ridge Racer 7
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07
Tony Hawk's Project 8
Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom

Resistance was literally the only game I wanted for sure.

Let's not even forget the wonderful PS3 quotes, I can't recall the exact ones but there were quite a few bad ones outside of the "Get a second job" for a PS3.

Sony cares about the consumer as much as Microsoft does: They just want your damn money.

It's just that simple.

So you forget how MS made the launch price of original Xbox and Xbox360? The selling price of original Xbox is like 70~100 USD less than its production cost. Didn't MS put consumer into the first?

They rushed the console and cost their consumers hundreds of dollars in replacements. You tell me.

Yes....Sony definitely did it for themselves.

Blu Ray Association members.

Second generation Sony started that made new formats available for the masses. They started out with DVD's and MS followed them a year later and then they used Blu Ray. They used CD's but it didn't help mass market prices of CD players.

More of that "loyalty free" logic at work for you guys.

And LOL @ whoever said PS3 was putting consumers first because it was sold at loss. Yikes.

The Xbox is pricy because MS knows lightening wont strike twice with casuals and the Kinect. In order to have the Kinect numbers go up they must attach it with every console.

I never said Sony was putting consumers first, I said they made blu ray affordable to the masses. Without the PS3 it would've either died and HD DVD later on. Your beloved Xbox One has followed suit, so your arguing is helping nothing. Its quite obviously though that even though they might not always put consumers first that they are more aware and in tune with consumers in the gaming industry than MS ever was hence their ascent. Outside of the gaming industry Sony doesnt have a clue.

I revoke my comment and wholeheartedly agree with yours. Didn't think of that.
