Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One Multiplayer Features: Dedicated Servers - Smart Match - Reputation System

I think this is wishful thinking at it's best. The article at the source of the 'dedicated servers for all games' rumour was only talking about conceptual uses for the Azure. I've yet to see one shred of evidence that this is real.

I think this is the article that started it off.

"Perhaps most intriguing, however, is that Xbox One gives game developers the ability to access Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing platform. That leads to a few obvious and immediate applications: All your downloaded and installed games and achievements are synced to the cloud and can be accessed and played without interruption on any Xbox One you sign in to; stable, dedicated servers for every multiplayer game rather than the notoriously fragile practice of hosting matches on one participant’s console; even multiplayer matches that can grow to 64, even 128 participants, rather than the usual limit of 16 or 32.

But other possibilities also come to mind. If developers are able to offload significant chunks of processing power to the cloud—conceivably even fundamental game mechanics like physics engines or collision-detection systems—that frees them to use local processing for even more intensive processes. In other words, the possibilities are limited only by the imaginations of thousands of game programmers. “It’s not like on day one, everyone will have figured out how to take advantage of that power,” Whitten says. “It’s just one of those stakes we’re placing.”

It's talking about what it thinks the Azure can make possible. This is not a confirmation in any way shape or form.

Dedicated servers=best online service for consoles. I wonder if that means COD as well? Dashboarders beware.

Unfortunately this video is not accurate, games will not be using the xbox one's servers as dedicated servers, games like cod are still pvp.

Well 2x1 exclusives are using dedicated server halo and Titanfall so this could very well be true. It could just be games that are exclusive to the x1 that get access to them

dedicated servers plus the cloud = win for microsoft!

Halo, Titanfall, BF4 all dedicated servers. COD=PVP....anyone else have a problem with this? COD needs to die

Well it's about time. Having to pay to play P2P on most games last gen was a joke. This is how it should be.

Agreed. There were times on Halo 3, reach and 4 where I cursed at MS with all their wealth that they didn't support their own games with dedicated servers! Now all games could have them. I'm pretty happy about it.

Alot of people going to be very disappointed if they believe all games will have dedicated servers.

Still have yet to see any definitive confirmation of dedicated servers for all games.

What MS basically said was that it's an option. If Devs want to continue to use P2P, they will.

There should be a strong movement toward dedicated servers if I'm paying to play online. (Sony included)
