If only... Nintendo would be ok as long as they could have a good stream of games, maybe increasing those third party collaborations would be best...

I think third party support will pick up this year. Pikmin and W101 should give it a pretty good bump. Then all the third party releases should sell decently. Then the big system sellers will make it a viable console.
I will be buying batman and watch dogs on Wii U. I'm not buying a PS4 or Xbox One until I absolutely need to. I will buy all the mulitplats I can on Wii U.
if nintendo said that third party support was their first priority, i would be confused.
regardless, they're still doing a bit better with the wii u than they did with the wii imo.
i do think 2014 might see a slight drop in support, however.

But our resources are always limited," Iwata said. "The fact of the matter is that there are some areas of game creation that Nintendo is very good at, but there are other things that Nintendo is not very good at. There are huge numbers of fans of Nintendo software, but at the same time, those types of players still sometimes want to play something else on our platform. Because of that, we always need third parties to support us, in order to make our platform complete." The only question I have is, why don't certain 3rd parties create their own fans on Nintendo's platform? I'm sure they can get a piece of the pie on Nintendo's market which is mostly isolated from the Hd twins market. Why can't 3rd parties compete with Nintendo on their own system's?? |
Because said 3rd parties have already established their fanbases on HD twins. You said it yourself, the nintendo market is isolated right? I often see so-called ninty fans making fun of the 3rd party games, calling them the same, etc. Since they obviously don't like the games, why bother?
Secondly, anyone with a ps4/X1 and wiiU will just buy the games on PS4/X1 most likely so Wii U version still suffers and really may not be worth the effort

No, I'm not talking about this.
I'm talking about the fact that the HD twins market is saturated and highly competitive. Surely there is uncharted territory on Nintendo's platform that a developer putting in the proper effort of dev and marketting could reach.

Aha, I get it now but I don't think HD twins market as a whole is saturated, just a certain genre and we all know which one that is.

It's pretty heavily competitive. All 3rd party publishers are releasing almost all games for them, whether exclusives or multi-plats, of all genres.
Sure shooters are even more saturated, but all genres really are heavily supported on the twins. A pioneer could take advantage of that on a Nintendo platform.

You have a point there. Frankly, I was surprised that the Wii U didn't even get something like KH3. I guess at this point said developers think people buy ninty platforms to play ninty games and won't even consider theirs. I mean, I do think games like "The last Story" and "Xenoblade" would have done much better on ps3 than the Wii this gen despite the Wii's higher install base. For comparison: take a look at Tales of Graces Wii sales vs essentially the same game: Tales of Graces F on ps3. Despite the Wii 's much higher install base especially in Japan, the ps3 version sold twice as much.
