Forums - Gaming - Cliffy B shares his thoughts on Xbox One Losing Used Game DRM Restrictions: “More Studios Will Close”, Microtransactions Will “Skyrocket”

Even if i can´t stand him, i agree with some parts. But this isn´t new, the problem started in 2006 when Sony and Microsoft started to make gigantic-cost games. Now the costs keep going up and developers KNOW that if they don´t do something (DRM, etc.) they will go bankrupt.

Then cut costs.

Something like Minecraft puts all these AAA games to absolute shame. This should be a stern message to the industry to get their shit together.

Cliffy B loves to talk shit. Maybe he's afraid of becoming irrelevant?

What really shocks me about games nowadays aren't the development budgets.  The marketing costs of the so called "AAA" games  are much higher than the costs of making the games.

Why is everyone being mean to cliffy :(

I understand his anger to be honest. If you were looking to future of Xbox with the DRm-esque policy, hoping for more competitive digital prices and being able to own every game physically+digitally, I would feel annoyed that MS caved to the pressure.

may i ask, how does it help the new market and help it immensely? im genuinely interested in knowing your point of view since you work with gamestop

Over 70% of all trade credit goes towards the purchase of NEW games.

People who cant normally afford new purchases use trade in credit to buy brand new titles. If the pre owned market collapsed you would see the sales of new games drop tremendously

thats pretty interesting. i always felt that used games helped franchises grow as well in a way in its own way. for example, if somebody is one the fence about a franchise with a sequel coming out soon he would buy the first instalment used, since its cheap it will eleminate a big part of the risk of the gaming being a bad financial investment. if he likes the sequel a lot he will most likely buy the new game new. thats just a theory i have, since the same thing happened with me with other franchises like assassins creed and uncharted. do you know if there is any truth to that?

i blame call of duty

Like we weren't going to see microtransactions or digital pre-order bonuses regardless of how a game is delivered. Cliffy is like one of those thinking that the Xbox One would lead to cheaper digital games.

He's right about one thing though, Sony is the one who made them change their policy, not gamers.

He wants to eat more crow... I can serve him

Dear Cliffy the Witcher 3 that will be all.
