Forums - Gaming - Can indie developers stop showing off how nerdy they are by making 8-bit/16-bit games?

See this is why the game industry is in such a bad shape.. Gamers demanding more... More and MOAR

why not? we can't get the same old thing over and over, innovation is fun.

Its lazy, its "Nostalgic" , its an excuse to cash in into a game with minimum effort  , yet people see it as "Artistic approach" really, its done to death.

all these games are different they're not the same game

I'm not saying these games are bad, but the fad needs to stop,  they seem to release an "8-bit styled game for TRUE GAMERZ" like every month, just this E3 they announced 5 of them (the two at the bottom ) and a sequel to Hotline Miami.

Nostalgia sells, and Indie guys have a hard enough time is to try to get buzz for what they are doing.  The only way to end up doing this is to pander to the past and play it up.  There is lack of these type of games, so Indie guys pick up the slack.  If you do say there is laziness, it is possible, but there is still a need to do stuff.  And also what you call "laziness" can be limits to what you can do with limited resources.
