Forums - Gaming - So can we finally admit that the "cloud" was PR play now that Xbox doesn't require online?

Whenever a journalist asked "why DRM? Why always online?", MS would reply "we want to do exciting things with the cloud".

So it was a PR show. They used the cloud as an argument for DRM.

But now this illusion fell apart.

you know that it was never always online? how could microsoft respond to that? and the stuff about the cloud and drm was about game sharing, playing your games on any xbox without the need to take the disc with you and stuff like that. all of that not possible anymore.

where did microsoft say that it's necessary to enhance the games which only need a 24h check except for games like forza where it still works now as long as you connect to the cloud?

never doubted it for 1 second.

I don't know how to take this? On one hand they got smart but on the other they now look like such money grabbing dicks by doing it in the first place when they didnt have to

Yes, this was the final evidence.

It's like a house of cards, it's all falling apart. Now everyone knows Microsoft was lying and cheating and this will haunt them for the rest of the generation.

I told you this was the beginning of the end. The Xbos brand will never recover from this.

What have they lied about? Stop being so hyperbolic. The cloud computing is for online, key is in the word. Cloud was never going to work for people that were just going to log in once every 24 hours for a minute to check their X1.

You better get used to the hyperbole. This gen is gonna be much harder for an Xbox fan than the past gen.

Your ... whole viewpoint on this situation is sad. As if you're only interested in gaming for the wars. If MS deliver the games (and they did E3) then no it isn't going to be 'much harder' the fact they've now proven to me (and others) they're investing in their first party shows it's going to be a better gen for xbox fans.

The use of the cloud for marketing was PR bullshit... PS3/360 already have game that used cloud but now MS is trying to give it more emphasis.

But the use o cloud didn't change after all... devs can use when they want.

No, I'm a passionate gamer. But yes, I'm interested in the war too. I don't want to be, but if you go to the internet and gaming sites you can't avoid it.

You sound surprisingly optimistic. I wish I had your optimism when I was a Xbox fan. When I was an Xbox fan and went to forums I was in a state of constant suffering.

Well, yes you can avoid it, very easily. Especially if you're suffering (like really, are you being serious? lol) I'm optimistic because I've seen games I want and that MS is making an effort in that department (finally), what's so surprising?

I'm not suffering that much anymore since I embraced the PS3 and Sony to some extent. But the total domination of Sony fans still makes me suffer lol.

About games, I'm not convinced. I believe Sony will deliver in the long run. Microsoft less so.

PS4 will win, and that'll force MS to not sit on their backsides so much and invest in more games (I hope). I'm confident anyway, I keep track of their first party stable and it's growing very nicely.

Anyway back on topic, I don't think the cloud is as amazing as MS make out, I don't think it's entirely useless either though (from what Turn 10 and Respawn have said) so as ever, wait and see.
