Pokemon is perfect for both. There's also a decent change of said child to play well into their teen years, if not beyond based on what I've experienced.

I think there are more girl gamers these days. At least it feels like it. I think the newer generation spends a lot of time playing video games with/around their kids regardless of gender but it's still tough to cater to girls. Most big companies have a pretty dumb idea of what girls like.
