Forums - Microsoft - X1 already launched in Illinois

It appears to be over $1200 per year at the absolute cheapest and comes with barely a fraction of the features the Xbox One has.

Someone purchasing this plus a PS4 would seem to face fees in excess of $1600 for the first year alone, for fewer features than a $500 Xbox ONE purchase, and a game line up that is arguably poorer in the first year according to the substantial portion of the gaming press...

Therefore I am assuming this is just a slightly unclear joke thread.

That includes Cable year plan. Does the Xbone include that? thought so....

so to reask my question...  does that mean if comcast says "fuck off" comcast won't work on xbone?

...cause without that is seems to me live tv could be viewed via xbone but you couldn't change the channel.  no?

Not exactly. Did you see the port on the back of Xbone that was IR Blaster? There will be a small device you can plug into Xbone and put it in front of your cable/sat box. Xbone will essentially work like a universal remote in that case.

i'll be honest.  i read the words IR Blaster and roughtly speaking this is what went through my head...

<awesome pic of master blaster>

lol that awesome

Yikes.. what a constructive thread.

There was never anything "groundbreaking" about MS's voice features. There are TV's that do the same thing. X1 does it differently than the Xbone or those TV's though. Either way equating this to the Xbone would be like me going into the Sony forum and saying PS4 has been out for years and then posting a pretty decent PC gaming rig.

It's access to the programming list.  Microsoft has to subscribe to the service that provides those listings for each and every cable/satellite provider.

The rest is HDMI pass through.  HDMI supports the remote operation of a device via a single connection, which is how the Xbox One will be able to control the cable/satellite box.  It's making sure that every possible box works across all cable, telco, and satellite providers.  The OneGuide is an app that insets the video from the input into a window, while you access it, then switches to full screen once the selection has been made.

For any non-HDMI devices, there is the IR Blaster.

As far as I know, no.  I don't believe Comcast has any say in who has access to its programming list.  In the US I'm pretty sure it's a central clearing house that provides those lists, but you have to subscribe to each market for each provider.  It ends up being a lot of markets.

That is, of course, here in the US and probably Canada.  In other parts of the world there may or may not be a central subscription service for which Microsoft can subscribe.  Otherwise, it would need to obtain that programming information through the provider itself.

In a manner of speaking yes, without it you could still watch live TV.  I believe you'd still be able to change the channel, by saying "Channel 6" for example, but the OneGuide wouldn't be able to provide you with programming information, or determine the content you like and make recommendations.

Agreed, perhaps this would have been a better approach for me to take.

My understanding is that I can just as easily plug my network television antenna into the Xbox ONE, no requirement for cable at all.

This is one of the more ludicrous threads to have been created since E3.

And there are again several posters throwing around words like 'DRM,' whilst ignoring the increasing evidence that Sony's DRM will be similar, albeit without the benefits of digital sharing (including simultaneous play of one copy of a game) the Xbox ONE will have.

Keep closing your eyes there starcraft

@starcraft, I couldn't agree more. I think they see x1 and Wii U as a real threat or they wouldn't be doing everything they could to talk people out of it.

Never liked MS but I don't try to convince others my opinion of them is the only valid one. You really only see that from one group. The minute Sony announces DRM, they will think it is the greatest thing ever. Look how they hated Live last gen but now that Sony is copying Live fees, they haven't once thought about supporting a company that still offers online gaming for free..

@MAx King of the wild, You reported me for saying Sony fans will be okay with DRM just like they are with paying to play online? Your response is amusing to say the least. Gonna look into your post history to see what about my comment hit so close to home for you that you needed to attack me and try to have my opinion silenced...

What about a tv service being offered by Comcast thats similar to a service ms was talking about for an hour upon reveal has anything to do with your opinion? Thats right. Nothing. And thats why you got reported. As for my post history... go ahead you will see me saying numerous times i wont pay for it and that just shreds your whole opinion a new one
