The handheld industry has shrunk big time, forget comparing with the DS, it's a good deal lower than the PSP at a similar point in their life cycles (roughly 2 years into launch, same month of May used for comparison): 3DS (May 2013) - 114k PSP (May 2007) - 221k
Just for those who are curious DS sold 430k+ that May 2007.
Yes it's nice that it barely eeked out the 7+ year old 360 as people are turning their attention to its successor, but it's not neccessarily something to throw a party about either. 3DS is struggling to increase momenteum year over year, and the portable market in general is really hurting in Nor

wernt you the guy that said that april is the exception for te 3ds and it wont increase yoy again? lol it did it again btw this month. and wernt you the guy that said 3ds would never be on top of npd? Well it is :

I never said it wouldn't be at the top of the NPD. It's competetion are 7 and 6 year old pieces of hardware who've just had their successors announced, it's bound to eek out some victories.
It's barely increasing year over year, it's basically flat. Last May was 113.5k according to the leaks, so lol, it increased by a whopping 500 units. That's statisical noise, not an increase.
It isn't performing that great in the West, even Iwata has said that, why don't you rag on him too. 114k is simply not that great of a number. If that's the best selling platform, that tells me the industry is hurting badly right now.
It should get an OK boost for Animal Crossing, but I think the problems the industry is having right now are systemic, not just because of 1 missing game.
