DayZ, a standalone mod for Arma 2, may become yet another console exclusive for PlayStation 4 and once again it’s Microsoft’s restrictive publishing rules that have gained a win for Sony.

“We’re happy to see DayZ on any console but there is a… I guess one problem,” creator Dean Hall told Edge, “The console needs to not charge for us to do updates and it needs to be indie title friendly.”

Dean was also asked if the two console giants were still charging developers a fee for releasing patches and bug fixes.

“As far as I’m aware, Microsoft is, Sony’s not. And Sony allows you to self-publish. But who knows?”

“Maybe Microsoft will change. From our perspective, we need self-publishing because DayZ would be a great digital download title.”

So the issues are Self-publishing and paid patch.

DayZ will only make to consoles 3 years from now minimum, by then I think Microsoft will have self-publishing if it's successful on PS4.

I don't really think it will be an exclusive, like only only on PS4. However I see it getting a release both on PC and PS4. Which still will be great. I hope it will be on PS4 since I'll be getting the device but if it is PC only then I'm settled as well :)

If PS4 owners get DayZ, then xbox owners will get class4. No biggie

'console exclusive' means it's exclusive to that console and PC.

Yes, that is what "console exclusive" means. It is exclusive on one console, but also avaliable on PC

It would be nice to see this game on the Wii U, since Nintendo also allows self-publishing and doesn't charge for updates, altough I'm quite sure he's talking about the PS4 there.
