Nice post. Too bad the majority of Sony fans will just come here and bash on everything Microsoft is doing anyway.
Very good post indeed.

CDs are done. BluRay is next. Face reality

I've been hearing they're done for quite a few years now.

The reality you speak of is that I can still go to my local music store and buy them.

Maybe we have different meanings for the words extinct and done??

I try to follow the English definitions

And record vinyls are getting a small following now, some people will never let go of physical media.

Exactly. 230 million albums were sold on CD last year.

If people want to go fully digital then good luck to them. I don't care as long as there is an option for both.

Not everyone has access to high speed internet. I don't understand why companies would think it's a good idea to ignore most of the population of this planet.

Not something I'm ever going to have to worry about, because there will never come a point when Xbox One is considered "the genius console". Whatever that means.

All this talk about future proof consoles, and it doesn't even have HDMI 2.0 which is coming out next year. I guess the cloud is going to download that hardware component? Together with 802.11ac or 5G Wifi to replace wireless-n which only gets less then 20mbps out of my 40mbps internet connection in the living room. Many more components will be ancient in 10 years time but these two will restrict cloud power to display the most.

Everything going digital in 5 years is laughable too. First we need fibre cable across the whole country, how long will that take? For now no one is taking on the task here in Ontario with an estimated cost of 8 to 12 billion dollars, or $1000 to $1500 per household to upgrade to FTTH. All we got so far is bandwidth caps to manage the increased traffic.

Plus new console generations are a good thing to shake up the industry, otherwise we'll just keep playing sequel after sequel. Look at all the new games announced for the new generation. That's anything but keeping the status quo.

It's not going to be the genius console in 10 years. It's going to be that slow old box with ancient hardware, a tiny slow hdd and old connections when everyone else has already launched a new box.

Most companies dont, its only a few and mostly inside the video game industry, like EA and MS seemingly want it too. And i believe they will fall on their ass, hell EA is even backing up right now

I agree completely.

I'm tipping this to be one of the biggest failures in console history.

You're comparing 2 completely different markets. Of course grandma isn't going to go digital only...

Most of the population of the planet ignores gaming. 250 million consoles between the Wii,360 and PS3 not 7 Billion.

And yet Microsoft in all it's wisdom want to constrict their userbase instead of expand it.
