All this talk about future proof consoles, and it doesn't even have HDMI 2.0 which is coming out next year. I guess the cloud is going to download that hardware component? Together with 802.11ac or 5G Wifi to replace wireless-n which only gets less then 20mbps out of my 40mbps internet connection in the living room. Many more components will be ancient in 10 years time but these two will restrict cloud power to display the most.

Everything going digital in 5 years is laughable too. First we need fibre cable across the whole country, how long will that take? For now no one is taking on the task here in Ontario with an estimated cost of 8 to 12 billion dollars, or $1000 to $1500 per household to upgrade to FTTH. All we got so far is bandwidth caps to manage the increased traffic.

Plus new console generations are a good thing to shake up the industry, otherwise we'll just keep playing sequel after sequel. Look at all the new games announced for the new generation. That's anything but keeping the status quo.

It's not going to be the genius console in 10 years. It's going to be that slow old box with ancient hardware, a tiny slow hdd and old connections when everyone else has already launched a new box.
