Forums - Sony - Even PS4 can do cloud processing.

Contrary to many users here in the forums, who expressed their expert opinion on Sony's Gaikai that they didnt have the abiltiy for cloud computing, like MS Azure has. So now it turns out even PS4 can do the cloud computing which MS has been touting X1 ultimate feature over its competition and the next big thing,. But Sony thinks otherwise and its not a big deal. There goes the elusive power of Azure.

Microsoft has touted the Xbox One's cloud-computing capabilities, promising that the system's hardware resources can be freed up by accessing remote servers that handle AI and physics calculations. Those remote computations, Microsoft says, will allow the Xbox One, unlike the Xbox 360, to become more powerful over time.

Sony Computer Entertainment's Shuhei Yoshida says that the PlayStation 4 can tap into similar technology, offloading processes that are typically handled locally to the cloud.

Yoshida said that "of course" PS4 developers will be able to take advantage of cloud-based computing for their titles.

"Linking, matchmaking... there are already many computations being done on the cloud side," Yoshida said, adding that there are limitations to what processes can be offloaded to a remote computer, due to latency and bandwidth.

Asked whether cloud-based computing technology would face issues of adoption, since Sony does not require an online connection for PS4, Yoshida said, "No."

"We don't believe every title needs that," he said. "But if your title needs [an] online connection to provide some online features: Go for it."

When Sony unveiled the PlayStation 4, it focused on using cloud-based technology for the delivery of streaming games, instant-play demos and the ability to let a friend on the internet take over gameplay on your PlayStation 4. Microsoft's implementation of cloud-based computing emphasized tapping into "variable number of transistors in the cloud."

Gaikai's cloud service is coming to PlayStation 4 sometime in 2014 after the console's initial launch.

Pretty obvious, but glad they clarified.

Not new news. Sony's SCE division has been using amazon's aws and now openstack's cloud computing for a while now.

For some reason people assumed the PS4 wouldn't support cloud computations, not sure why though.

I think that the reason why the Xbox One choose to market its cloud so much is to justify the hardware power differential between it and the PS4.

I think PS4 isn't marketing it because they know there console is more powerful, I think this is a mistake, they should probably focus on it a little more.

They'll support it but I'll probably opt not to use it because of my bandwidth limit.

If its not blast processing, it can go to hell.

Well I am sure Gaikai can do something, but it won't be on the same level as Azure. Azure is not just for Xbox, it is for Office, Hotmail and other things. It has been a massive investment by Microsoft and Sony just doesn't have the money to match it

So basically he is saying that there might games that won't work without an internet connection...

So it can...okay good...so that is another option the PS4 can use if Sony wants to later on in the generation.

The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

its exacly that. You 100% correct

i hope he clarifies if some games dont work when electricity goes down.

"i hope he clarifies if some games dont work when electricity goes down."

I don't get this part..you think i'm trying to troll?..Proposing that he gives devs the go ahead to make games that require cloud processing, means that the games won't work without an internet connection...are you  trying to deny this?
