Forums - Microsoft - Further evidence that MS is potentially having hardware issues in cooling.

I'm pretty sure they were going for an AV unit style design so that it blends into your entertainment center.

Having an external power brick actually reduces its chance of overheating.  Also it shouldn't be too big but that all depends on how much power it uses.  They got progessively smaller on the 360 I'm curious to see the size of the brick on the just anounced 360 redesign.

I think I never have a console with bricks.. I don't remember if PS1 and PS2 had.

The fact Sony not used a brink with PS4 can means the console have a really good controls over the heat issues.

One of the PS2 slim redesigns actually had a power brick but I think it was only available in Japan.  The 360 wasn't the first console I had that has a power brick the N64 had one (not a traditional one since it actually attaches to the console) and so did my Gamecube.  I also bought a used late model Atari 2600 that had a power brick.  Of the course NES, SNES, SMS, and Sega Genesis/Mega Drive kinda had power bricks also with their power adapters.

Yeah... I didn't remeber before... my N64 had one but it was together with the console... and I really don't remember about my SNES, Mega Drive or Master System

The WiiU is so diddy :D Impressively small though. As is the PS4.

I'd be more worried about the ps4 look how tiny it is with included psu inside that would need cooling a lot, Xbox one is huge in comparison

That's  definite opposite view. But Sony doesn't have the history of a device with an initial failure rate of over 30%.

Speak for yourself, I still have a YLOD 60GB PS3 as a door stop.  Sony may not have had as many YLOD as MS but they did have their fair share of them.

PS4 dosen't have one the WiiU has a very small one since it uses only a small amount of power.  Wii and Gamecube also had very small power bricks.  How big or small the X1 power brick will be depends on how much power it uses.

That makes a lot of sense. Could be all for show and display and not related to heat or anything else at all, however, internal shots of the case show it as being "full".

Well... every console... not... every equipment have a failure rate close to %5... the big issue here is the 30% of the X360.

Sony's defect rate was below 10%. Higher than Nintendo but FAR closer to industry norm. No where near the same thing.

No I was talking about the size of the console ^^ (looking at the picture)
