Forums - Gaming - PS4 x Xbone x Wii U Size Comparison

Xbox ram need more power and gets hotter = needs better cooling = needs more space.

PLUS

xbone is going to be a living room multimedia device. All have the same width. You can place your DVD player on top of your bluray player on top of your xbone on top of your AV-Receivers etc.

Its a standartized width etc.

I see.. AIAS is about software.. not hardware.. Cerny is great with software but I believe that this is his first hardware product..

What I read he was always involved with hardware too... even did some lectures about how to make small moterboards.

Don't know.. all his achievement and awards are based on his software stuff.. nothing about hardware till now

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Maybe the Xbone has an internal power transformer, while Ps4 uses an external one.

Not. Xbone uses a external power and PS4 uses a internal one ... already confirmed.

Ok, then it's just good hardware design. After all M$ isn't really good for these things...the first xbox was more or less lika a modded PC case, let alone 360 and its heat issues.

Props to Sony for the good design. To be honest I think this is the best looking Playstation yet. It seems to me like the natural evolution of the Ps2 design, suqare-shaped with marked horizontal lines, only this time it's more simple and elegant.

I hadn't thought of that--excellent point.  The size makes sense given their focus on it being a set top box right on top of your cable/satellite receiver.  I don't agree with the direction they're going, but that does make sense given that this is their focus.

This, and everything Microsoft makes has always seemed very large to me--consoles, controllers, etc.  I think it's because their approach to console design has mostly been more "build a custom gaming PC and slap a dedicated OS for gaming on it" rather than "design a game console."  That's not meant to be insulting to their approach at all, just my observation.

Microsoft comes from the PC business, Sony from the consumer electronics business, and it shows.

^This.  I just posted something to this effect.  Experience in the PC business versus experience in consumer electronics.

I would like to see the internals of both consoles.

Me too.

I actually am pretty surprised with the amount of power in the PS4 how they were able to pack it into such a small box and not have many noticeable vents except the back. Thats pretty impressive for the power it has. Xbox One looks like it is layered with vents lol. While the small design of the PS4 is nice I actually like the design of the One better. To me its just simple and looks just like any device in my entertainment center.

It would be interesting to hear more about the PS4 design. Its great to get that much power packed into such a small space and not have any overheating issues. Wonder how the internal cooling system was built.

The size is true but....from a technical aspect you really aren't supposed to stack those devices on top of each other. It is not good for them and can cause some issues down the line. Not saying ti will but it usually does...

The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

For a low processing machine that's makes sense... for a game machine with high processing I don't see that happening.

Please guys didn't put anything over a game machine... or even put a game machine over any other equipment... that just create more heat.
