According to Yoshida it depends on the publisher.  How? I  really dont know.  Maybe if you use PS+ you use Sony servers; but if you use your own you dont need PS+?

i read it and it said you can still have asynchronous online and recieve data from other players whatever that means,because if i am missing something if you haven't paid for plus you won't be playing anyway so won't see it,unless he is talking about messages from psn friends

right but f2p can still be behind a paywall of sony/ms etc,i wouldn't put it past them

For the first time ever we are going to have more quality games then we know what to do with at launch. It's a great day for all gamers!

PS+ is for online multiplayer gaming.  The Asynchronus feature of Drive Club, refers that you can download the data of your friends performance so that you have some kind of challenge to beat; but you wont be able to compete live against them or with them.

Asynchronous feature really depends on each game.

They are not as leaderboards; more like in game challenges based on your friends performance.
