Are Nintendo's announced Wii U games a significant step up from the Wii's iterations?

Very much so 8 22.86%

A bit 13 37.14%

Not really 9 25.71%

Definitely not 5 14.29%

Total:35

So, a new Mario, Donkey Kong, Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart have been announced. What were your reactions to the trailers and screenshots of these games? Did they excite you? Did they provoke a feeling of wonder? Or were you disappointed?

Although I'll definitely get the new Smash and Mario Kart, Smash especially looks like an upressed Wii game. Really nothing exciting was shown, although I'm sure it'll be crazy fun.

Mario and Donkey Kong however? Laaaaame. I mean seriously, is there anything in these games that provoke any emotion besides boredom? Nintendo is going the exact opposite direction of their N64 and GameCube days. Almost all of their games are rehashes now. Games that feel and play smooth, familiar and polished, but also unexciting and dull. Super Mario Galaxy looks tons more creative than this uninspired Mario Land bullshit. I was hoping Nintendo could reinvent themselves again but until now, they play it on the extremely safe side.

What are your thoughts?

Nothing looked a step up except Project X. They're passable sequels to what worked before but I don't see this reversing Wii U's fortunes. Especially not with only the weakest game, 3D Mario, out before Christmas.

I thought Nintendo fans knew better than to base their judgements on looks alone.

Donkey Kong is this year as well.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Definitely everything looked good, maybe the new Mario not much BUT, I can see hours spent in that game with my friends... To me, Nintendo won the E3 and most likely a good push on sales...

Thanks.

I expected at least one of Kart or Smash though. Gonna be a rough holiday.

Not really - tbh, Rayman looks better than anything I've seen so far from their 1st parties - not that they look bad, it's just I was expecting bit more creativity from them.

Are you kidding? Just look at the love!
