It is because of clueless people who chose to buy 360 when it introduced paywall. If people stopped buying 360s when there was a free alternative, none of this would happen. Blame yourself.

I had a problem with paid multiplayer and still have. Stop with these stupid posts. Show me examples of people who said "I'll never pay for online, never." and now saying "paid multiplayer is great!".

LOL so now its Microsoft's fault that Sony is charging for online multiplayer? Wow i have heard it all on this website.

You obviously haven't been reading in many threads about paying for online as many people have said that if Sony or anyone were to introduce pay for playing online, it would be because MS have done it and made it profitable. If MS with Xbox Live was free from the get go, we'd still have free online gaming across the board, extra features might exist still, like PS+, mind you. MS caused this, whether you like to think it or not.

I don't like the idea of paying for online play, I already pay my ISP so and the game and the console, why should I pay more to play what could be the main feature of the game. If the cost were low and I mean £5 a year or even £10 once, then fine but the amount they ask for yearly is too high.

Hmm, pie.

like i said is some other thread,..

i think it's a bad move for sony to put multiplayer under ps+. however, i personally already pay for ps+ and love the service and think it is already incredibly worth the price. so as long as they don't decrease the number of free games that comes with ps+ i remain completely unaffected by this.

..still wish multiplayer was part of the service though.

No? Maybe  you missed the part where I was talking about people. It was such a short read.

If its people then are the ones that are willing to pay for online multiplayer on PS4 will be at fault also? Are they also part of the problem now?

And only PS plus members are praising this dick move of Sony... go figure.

I dont think anyone is "praising" this descision, but is it understandable and logical? Yes it is, as we have seen with Microsoft and the xbox, why wouldn't sony try and get in on the action and get more money this way. Do I agree with this Descision? A definate NO, even though I have PS+ I whole heartedly Disagree with Sony's Descision to do this. Still I am not seeing anyone Praise this descision.
The funny thing is though is that a lot of people saw this coming, but the way sony did it was truly Brilliant from a buisness standpoint

We know that companies need to make money. We know servers cost a lot of money to look after.

To me, even though i didnt like MS approach (not being able to access free services via gold, demos etc), if PS+ just focusses on MP only being behind the paywall, then i think that is fine. I already have PS+, its great, and will continue to buy it, so it's not the end of the world.

As far as i am concerned out of all the things that have happened over the last few weeks, this is the least of a console owners worries. People should be shouting from the roof tops about always online/activation/game DRM crap, as that is so much more of a problem.

Absolutely,  now it is a  part of the problem. There is a difference, at that time there was an alternative. Now there isn't. So if  you want to play games you have to accept it now. Plus you are not only paying for online multiplayer, you are paying for the services as well (You probably know them). It doesn't change the fact that they are part of the problem. We, gamers, have a big problem now. Maybe you are looking at it from Microsoft's perspective, I don't know. I only see a mess.

No, it don't bother me at least we get free games for 3 platforms now. They already said Drive Club would be the first PS4 game on the service. I find Playstation Plus to be incredibly good value and i'm more likely to use it due to the 500gb hard drive on PS4. Also, former Xbox 360 owners should be used to it, what with Xbox Live Gold.

Unlike XBL which LOCKED a bunch of free services behind Gold, PS+ is worth it by itself with ADDED content, so I already pay for PS+.

The fact it is needed for PS4 multiplayer is a non issue as I already pay for the added things.  It will obviously be compared to XBL Gold, but really they are complete opposites, XBox locks stuff away and makes you pay to unlock it, PS adds things and doesn't lock free services away.

That's silly.  They're exactly the same now.

If anything... all i proves is that PS3 had a much better trojan to get people to accept paying for online.

They're not the exactly the same.  PS+ offers you free games per month.  The paywall only blocks online multiplayer and not any of the others apps and features.

I'm already a PS+ members because it's a great service, not because it's online.  I don't support requiring to pay to play online, but the model behind it is much better than Microsoft's pay or you can't do sh**.

I don't like this pay to play online because once my Plus runs out and I don't want to resubscribe I'll still have to, but I'd rather pay to play online rather than be tied down to restrictive DRM where I can't play any of my games in the future.

As far as I can tell... so does Microsoft based on their confrence.

Microsoft offers two games per month on the 360 only until the Xbox One launches.  PS+ offers five games per month between the PS3, PSP, and Vita and will add PS4 games to the Plus subscription in the future.  Right now Plus isn't even required to play online on any of the other systems, that doesn't even go into effect until the PS4 launch and when it does, it's exclusively tied to the PS4 requiring Plus for online, nothing else.

is there really much difference between power as in enough to keep stating it,

this gen is like skynet now,it costs money to keep it all running, hence the subs, people don't have to pay/buy as far as i am aware there are other choices to game

the xbox has a lot going on with all its interface/os stuff, its always a gamble the decisions companies make

                                                                                                                                        Above & Beyond

I haven't had a chance to watch the Sony conference yet. I do have a few questions:

1) Does PS have the option of system link to play their games like Xbox?
2) Slightly OT (but DRM has been mentioned in more than just a few posts); is there no DRM or DRM is still left up to the publishers? Did they say anything about the online passes?
3) Since there is no B/C, what games will be offered in the beginning for PS4 Plus members?

Moving the online multiplayer behind the pay wall comes as no surprised. Many people pretty much knew this would happen. This may have some effect on the number of multi-console owners. I do not think most people are willing to pay for this option on two systems.

I also wonder if Sony plans on raising the price of Plus to equal the msrp cost of a year of Gold. Just the way they said less than $5 a month. Of course, I am not saying they will. Just kind of thinking out loud.
