I told you nearly a year ago that this would happen. Everyone called me a crazy fanboy. Funny how nearly no one saw this coming because for me it was the most obvious move in the world. Gonna look up my posts brb.

Gonna sit back and enjoy the spin now that paywalled online is suddenly a good thing because there are still the free games. Sony will decrease the rate of free games massively because it was a ruse from the very beginning. No call me crazy again.

You are F#%king crazy! IS that what you wanted?

So what if you are a new playstation-owner? Meaning not owning a ps3. What does psn+ give you then? I mean with ps3 you have a large library and so you get games for rent that are worth it but what will $ony offer with ps4 at start? Do you think you will get launch-titles for rental at the start? Or is it just the online-paywall?

The only paywall is online multiplayer on PS4. Everything else is being left alone. Unfortunetly PS4's PS+ free game offerings will be slim at first, seems one a month the first 4 months as crazed mentioned, DriveClub then 3 indie titles. After that they might be able to consider an Instant Game Collection but maybe they aren't going for the 48 a year, just the 24 like the Vita has. We will have to see how and when they implement the IGC.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

That's a good question. Well as they stated you will have access to Drive club right of the bat. That is a 60 dollar title for 50 bucks. plus at least one free game a month (maybe not all PS4 titles as PS+ is a unified service across all platforms) and at least three of those are Don't Starve, Outlast and Secret Ponchos (which I liked the look of myself).

Thanks :) I am not decided yet between Xbone and PS4, both look absolutely great to me. I like Forza but DriveClub also looks good but graphically definitely not better than Forza. I liked the FF15-trailer, too. But really, MS delivered yesterday, massively. Games looked absolutely stunning, Sony was good, too, but games-wise MS won for me.

I am also interested in Gaikai but as I heard it will only have selected ps3-games available and by now is limited to us - and starting in 2014. This doesn't sound too good - they are just not ready, no instant play, all the stuff that relies on Gaikai.

I think I need to play both, the controller is really a crucial point for me and it will also depend on which platform I will be able to use a fanatec-wheel.

Hard times for gamers!

What differentiates the online infrastructures of consoles to warrant a paywall for online gaming, when compared to the PC's free one?

It's all about subsidizing hardware. It's not like Sony has much of a choice when their competitor is Microsoft. We can file this as another example of how competition isn't necessarily good for the consumer.

Exactly, Microsoft has demonstrated this gen that plenty of people will pay for online multiplayer alone. Initial price was more important to build momentum. Let's hope that the Xbox One is not succesful, otherwise next gen ownership will also be out of the window.

It sucks. Sure I already have a WiiU, nothing to play online on it though.
The choice for which 1080p console to choose is pretty simple. I already have ps+, and like to own my games.

Still a bitter pill to swallow as I know some of my friends won't sign up for ps+ since they don't play much anyways. No LBP3 or driveclubbing with them. We can still meet on the WiiU, just release some damn games for it already. Surprise me tomorrow.
(Well and on the ps3 ofcourse, GT6 still has free online play)

You'll get Drive Club Plus Edition. That hints at a stripped down version. Don't believe the people who are telling you that you get the actual Drive Club!

How would it be stripped down? Not a single game available on PS+ is a "stripped down version" and there is no reason to hint that Drive Club would be any different. In fact you'll need PS+ to take advantage of the multiplayer component any ways. Bad form my freind.

So wait after years of Sony fans bitching on xbox live, stating psn would never get behind a paywall and if it would they'd go to pc. And now they follow just blindly lol just lol

I which I could pay the freeking money for PS+, but alas, it's not supported in the savage east of Europe...

After we've read years of threads like the one below, it's now ok to charge for online to Sony fans is it?

No, read my posts and a few others.

Hmm, bad move. Has ruined my support for it, hope they change their minds. I'd like to play some games online.

Or just lower the cost to a flat fee of £5 for the year, then PS+ can be £30 or whatever and you get all the extra crap.

Hmm, pie.
