Forums - Gaming - Why the Wii U is failing & How it may be saved

So publishers left Wii U, it selling less than the PSV and Wii, why is the main reason for U ?

It's a shame there's so much censorship on this forum, because as an old fan of Nintendo I however knew even before the actual release it would fail.

Today there's no doubt, proof are here : the Wii U is selling less than the PS Vita and even the old Wii, main and third party publishers have all let the Wii U platform, and analysts are really concern with the future of Nintendo.

But with expensive, all-DRM, always watching, anti-consumer consoles, it might get a chance. MIGHT.

So first here is why the Wii U was sure to fail even before the release.

1. The Wii legacy has dimmed. Some people would even argue that it didn't win 7th gen. But what is sure is that because it was a genius concept at the beginning but the hardware was too quick too obsolete, that althought it had lots of games it ended having too much crappy/cheap games and no AA anymore, and now nobody wants to buy or play on Wii anymore.

2. It's a failure of marketing : usually, every new Nintendo console brings it's own new name, design and concept. Well for the first time, Nintendo is just release an upgraded version of a previous console : "Wii" U, same design codes, same controllers, same channels...

3. It's  failure of concept : the only addition is a the gamepad, pad. This is a terrible idea because you can only look at one screen at a time, you can only connect one to Wii U, and nobody wants to carry around a Wii pad.

4. MAINLY it's a failure of hardware : once again, and I REALLY think that the main reason of failure, the Wii U is already obsolete. It's too weak, no prepared for future media/mobile technology like Xbox One/PS4, so even third party publisher have no interested in releasing games on it.

But it might saved. HOW ?

1. Like Apple that was kind of saved by fans shutting their stupid desillusioned mouth, it might help a lot for Nintendo

2. If other console are anti-consumer, DRM, expensive hogs

3. If Nintendo does like Microsoft and pays lots of japanese publishers for exclusive

4. If it becomes really cheap.

I love how doom threads for Wii U after the presentaions of today are created like every 5 minutes now.I sure will laugh at you in about 14 hours. Have a good night.

.....too much pot....but who, you or me?

With how expensive Xbox One is and mostly PS4 will be, i don't see how Wii U can be considered expensive anymore. It's powerful enough for now but as usual Nintendo struggles to get 3rd party support, i never understood why. They used to do so well with 3rd party games

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

I remember good old times when 3DS was doomed... and DS... and Wii... and PSP... and PS3... ahh the memories...

Wii U just needs games. Hardware or/and lack of innovation are pointless things in the end.

You see, even with all the bad PR MS got after the Xbox One release, most gamers are loving them after the E3 presentation, ignoring everything else that happened before. That should tell us enough about this market.

Nintendo's performance must be judged in a vacuum. That's really the long and short of it.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I haven't seen a single game today that looked significantly better than anything on the PS360. So the hardware argument is moot. Wii U is going to blow away some people tomorrow.

It's none of the reasons you gave in my opinion. The main reason it's failing is that 3rd party developers are not excited about the hardware and Nintendo's developers don't know how to use the unique features of the hardware.

They just need to drop the price and bring out the games and I think the Wii U will be fine.
