Forums - Gaming - Psychology survey : You who supports DRM/Xbox One/EA, who are you?

I plan on buying/support the Xbox One mainly because

I'm rich, I don't care 59 33.52%

I don't bother being always on/watched 28 15.91%

I think used games are bad for X reasons 8 4.55%

I think DRM are good for X reasons 12 6.82%

I'm a publisher/dev myse... 9 5.11%

I hate piracy and/or second-hand market. 25 14.20%

I'm a firm Microsoft sup... 35 19.89%

Total:176

I already never buy used games and rarely sell my old games anyways. So the fact that they're crippling this market doesn't affect me negatively, and it will probably result in games being priced much lower. If the console market responds to this anti-used game in a similar manner as the PC market, we could be seeing games on sale for less than 15 bucks a measly year after release!

Hell, I've gotten used to paying <$15 for AAA titles on PC that haven;t even been out for half a year. It would be awesome if the console market moved towards that price scheme too.

I also think of it this way

A brand new console game costs $60, whereas a used copy is $55. A consumer comes along and buys the used copy. So the consumer saved a measly $5 and yet the developers of the game got screwed out of whatever their take from a $60 sale would have been. Let's say it would have been $40. So you save $5, devs miss out on $40, Gamestop makes all the profit. Why would I want my money to go to an unneccesary middleman rather than the people who made the product I'm enjoying, much less at a friggen 8 to 1 ratio?? I don't know what the real numbers are but either way, it's still a ridiculous ratio

In the reverse scenario, if I could pay $5 MORE for a game and this caused $40 extra to go to the devs, I'd probably do that to support those who make what I want.

I like the idea of used games because they incentivize price drops on the new copy. But when a game is still less than a couple months old, I just think they cause more harm than good. Oh yeah, and I hate the idea of DLC but devs will continue to use DLC as a means to make money from used games. So crippling used games could also have the side effect of stopping friggen day 1 DLC bs

Point being: I love the price points on steam and wish consoles were like that.

I voted that I hate piracy and second-hand market. Now all they have to do is make games cheaper and I'd be happy.

Imagine if Xbox games were cheaper than PS4 games or something? :-O

I wouldn't mind something like Steam for consoles either.

I don't care what your background is, how can people support this? I guess loyalty does wonders for companies and governments, no matter how wrong the cause is.

Why would I let something that has no negative impact on the way I play games bother me? I should refrain from buying an Xbone because little Timmy in rural Kentucky doesn't have stable internet and can't figure out how to go into his phone settings and tether it to his Xbone? I should turn away from some of my favourite game franchises like Halo and Forza because of DRM? I still buy movies and music and I don't fully own those either. As long as I can play and enjoy them that's what's important to me.

Ok so no impact on you?

Lets take your race (not quite sure which one, but for now lets just assume spanish). Now lets say a new law was coming out about apples. From now on only spanish, black, and korean people can eat apples, but white, japanese, and every other race cannot touch them.

Are you going to just happily accept that law because it doesn't affect the way you have access to eating apples?  Most likely no, it's a morally wrong law.

Just because it doesn't affect you doesn't mean it affects others. There are TONS of people this obviously does affect, but from your logic on that.....Fuck em, doesn't affect me.

Their are so many other things i want to say right now, but am refraining of because of the way this sites policy on speech has gone I'll get some kinda warning or ban so I'm going to refrain....

You should add a see results option because I'm not going to vote for any of those options.

Ah indeed that's missing, but I can't edit the poll without losing all answers and results infortunetely.

Well, I have always shown a distinct lack of empathy since young age and never really cared much for responsibilities. My overly religious parents even considered whether I was a spawn of Satan at one point after finding me strangling a squirrel in kindergarten.

With that said, I'm not only supportive to, but glad that Microsoft made the Xbox One require an online connection. Still can't believe that they actually allowed poor people from undeveloped areas to use the glorious Xbox 360 platform - even in offline mode. My only wish now is for them to announce an increase to the existing Xbox Live Gold subscription fee this upcoming E3. If that happens, there is no way I will miss an opportunity to buy this beast.

You forgot that games shouldn't cost less than $60, it's too cheap, and nobody would want to cheap ass people to be able to affor games right ?

I'm 32 years old, married with a job. Gaming is something I do for fun. We are a digital family. I have over 100 DVDs and I honestly haven't watched one in years. Physical media is a hassle for me. I have a gaming PC and I love Steam and Origin isn't so bad either. I was hoping this Gen would go digital. Cloud has so many benefits plus I love the NFL and fantasy football. I can't wait to use the on demand voice controlled fantasy sports. I will most likely go all digital on all my games for the Xbox One. There will be a lot of new exciting exclusives this upcoming Gen. I will most likely pick up a PS4 in a few years for the exclusives as well.

Another thing about this taking your console on vacation with you. First of all how old are you? If I tried to take my console with me on family vacations when I was a kid my parents would have smacked me. A vacation is to spend time with your family. If you are older like myself I go on vacation to enjoy the sights, events, etc. Why would I want to play video games on vacation? I don't get this argument. If you need video games that badly you have an addiction and should seek help.

If the company goes out of business (Steam, Microsoft, etc) then how will you be able to play the games?  Granted they could release a patch right before their collapse that unblocks all the DRM or whatever.  Anyways, imagine a future apocalypse where you are powering your TV, video game console through a generator and there isn't any internet.  How are you going to play those games if they are DRM to internet connection?  Granted my scenarios have a .0001% of chance of actually happening.  How about this scenario though...  Your city is struck by a huge disaster (although your house remains).  Internet services are down and you can't play video games.  Granted you probably have more things to worry about then playing a video game.  Hand helds are superior to home console systems in terms of playing after disaster!

I doubt MS will be going out of business any time soon. Regardless, if it came to an end of the world scenario, I think playing video games would be pretty low on the list of things which bothered me. I remember a time when videogames didn't exist and life was fine then; you could always read a book.

Why would you put piracy in the same category as second hand. I support second hand but not piracy. Second hand at least money is being exchanged which helps the economy. Piracy help no one at all.

That's pretty much why the PC mostly gets late ports of console games, and hardly any AAA exclusives.

Really I always assumed it was because of the massive piracy on PC. Which is why most devs swithced to consoles. It's the main reason CoDs main devs switched to home consoles rather than putting their efforts on the pc version.
