If the company goes out of business (Steam, Microsoft, etc) then how will you be able to play the games?  Granted they could release a patch right before their collapse that unblocks all the DRM or whatever.  Anyways, imagine a future apocalypse where you are powering your TV, video game console through a generator and there isn't any internet.  How are you going to play those games if they are DRM to internet connection?  Granted my scenarios have a .0001% of chance of actually happening.  How about this scenario though...  Your city is struck by a huge disaster (although your house remains).  Internet services are down and you can't play video games.  Granted you probably have more things to worry about then playing a video game.  Hand helds are superior to home console systems in terms of playing after disaster!

I doubt MS will be going out of business any time soon. Regardless, if it came to an end of the world scenario, I think playing video games would be pretty low on the list of things which bothered me. I remember a time when videogames didn't exist and life was fine then; you could always read a book.
