Put things into context. You can't access vgchartz for a month? No big deal. You can't access your games for a month? Now, that is a deal breaker.

Also, you can access vgchartz on any mobile phone so you don't need your home internet.

It takes a month for you ISP to fix your interent when its down? Wow, i would find a better company.

Anyways yea it always been ironic TBH. I think people need to take a step back and realize how much the internet is involved in their everyday lives. The connecting every 24 hours is not a problem and to be honest should not be a issue for MOSTpeople, especially the users on this site since they seem to post multiple times during various points of the day.

Most people complaining on the internet about this have interest access.

I also find it funny when someone says they are on their smartphones. If you can afford a smartphone with a data plan you can afford internet.

I  understand everyones situation is different and some people simple do not have internet at home, but honestly most of people need to calm down. I find it really hard to believe that most of people have crappy unstable internet connect all of a sudden. If  you did why is this the first time we are hearing about it? Why wasn't steam bash for requring you to have internet access to buy and play your games?

Its only happening because its a console. Embrace the future people this is the age of the interent whether you like it or not.

Yeah, I've been trying to make this point about Steam on various forums/websites.  Steam has DRM, and in some ways it's even MORE restrictive than what Microsoft is doing.  You can't sell your games, you can't trade your games, you can't buy used Steam games; and just like with Xbox One, you MUST have internet (though to be fair, Steam has offline mode that lets you play offline for something like two weeks, something which Microsoft should try to implement in the future).

Yet despite these similarities, everyone who talks about Steam LOVES it!  It's such a wonderful service!  Gabe Newell is the greatest force for good in the games industry!  I'm not sure I've come across anyone who was willing to rip on Steam just as hard as they have been ripping on Microsoft.  Steam always seems to get a pass on this issue.

Why the double standard?  Really the only answer I've heard is that Steam gives great sales.  So from what I can gather, it's not really about corporations or consumers' rights to most people; it's about cheap games.

At any rate, it's a real eye-opener to think that Steam, which has various restrictive DRM, has over 50 million users, which is MORE than Xbox Live, which currently has less than 50 million users and NO DRM for the 360.  The digital age is coming with all of its restrictions AND benefits, and tens of millions have already jumped on board.  Console players like me have no choice but to get used to it, because it's the future.  Maybe it won't arrive in full force until the end of the upcoming console generation, but like it or not it's on it's way, I don't currently see anything stopping it.

For anyone saying they have internet on their phones but not in their home, and how that's a dealbreaker since they think that means they won't be able to use the X1, I point you to this statement from the Xbox Wire:

"In areas where an Ethernet connection is not available, you can connect using mobile broadband." So if your mobile broadband is reliable, your X1 will connect to the cloud through that, even in your internet goes down for some reason for a few days. Problem solved.

That is all. Carry on with your arguments.

Oh snap! Mobile hot spots huh!? I have an iPhone so I don't have that.... It's ok though because I can buy an additional service for that!!! This is dumb...

Edit: nevermind the fact that there are data caps on cell services.... Connect to the cloud with it? Hell no. This argument is stupid as well FYI

Get a real phone. Also, get a service with a data cap of more than 100mb.

My data is unlimited but they turn it to 56k if I go over 2GB. And that's just cute how you alienated all iPhone users since there are so little of us.

VGChartz is a website that intrinsically requires internet connection to work. It just couldn't work otherwise.

That is not the same for the Xbone. People aren't complaining about the features that intrinsically need internet connection to function on the Xbone. People aren't complaining about not being able to play multiplayer in Halo, because that is one feature of the game that wouldn't be possible without a constant internet connection. What people are complaining about is why they can't play the single player portion of Halo without having to be connected to the internet every 24 hours, because the SP inherently does not require a constant internet connection. This leads directly on to the fact that the constant internet connection required is not to help the operation of all game modes, but rather to push DRM on the console and M$'s policies.

If people complained about MP requiring internet then you could use your argument about VGChartz requiring online, but people complaining about online requirements for DRM purposes is a different story altogether. I don't see why anyone would defend such policies.

It is not that it really affects me that much as with Xbox Live costing 60$ a month does not affect me much. It is just that more regular consumers for video game consoles would have a hard time enjoying it. My father, friend, uncle etc. all play video games but do not have internet.

Also my Super Nintendo is 23 years old and I can still play it today. You think I can play Xbox One in 23 years? If the answer is even close to a possible no then that is bad.

When I moved house, I had no internet for 2 weeks. 2 weeks of no gaming is a lot. Nothing to do with cost or being able to afford it. That's just how it is. It takes 1 or 2 weeks before they connect your phone line.

Sometimes I wish people would think before they post V_V

Very good point. A good analogy would be your refridgerator requiring internet connection to work. Would people go about saying "so what? everyone has internet in 2013"?

Yea dude I agree with you 100%, but honestly we are both just wasting out time. You cannot convince those who already have their mind made up. Most people complaining about this are only complaining because MS is doing it. If it was Sony we would not be seeing all this bitching. Last gen everyone was like oh sony is making a future proof console and its the ultimate media hub, remember its slogan "it only does everything"?

Now MS is doing it and everyone complains. MS is making a system that could do everything hence the name one and it gets bashed, while the ps3 was getting love.  Its the digital age people need to deal with it.

And think how annoyed people would be if they found that the constant internet connection required for the refrigerator to function is so that the manufacturer of the refrigerator can charge you a little extra when you put food on the door shelves as opposed to the racks.

You're right, it was a bit tactless of me, but I find it somewhat ironic that someone who uses iOS(one of the most closed, restrictive OS's in existence) should complain about Xbox One. I mean, you guys can't even copy a simple .txt file to your phone without jumping through hoops, most interactions between your phone and PC must be through Apple's buggy iTunes software, AND you have to pay extra to use your phone as a mobile hotspot? If you're willing to put up with all that, surely connecting to the internet once every 24 hours shouldn't be that big of a deal to you.

The craziest thing about this whole DRM thing is that all the people that HAVE internet will effectively kill this console, even though microsoft designed it for them. People that have internet, and use it regularly, know IT too well to believe that it is reliable enough to put their entire entertainment library on it. NO WAIT!!! you can still watch blue-rays and tv on it..... THATS IRONY

My internet cuts off because my provider is incompetent and I go fucking nuts because I can't use a website. It just puts me on a bad mood. Imagine if that was my entire gaming library? hmmm

What about the blissful random idiot that does not have internet and have just been buying a gaming console to play games for the past hmm....30 years?!

He will see the Xbox One on his TV (because microsoft has a shit load of money, so obviously they will not spare any expenses on the TV ads, he WILL see it) and "think those graphics sick! i gotta get one!"

Goes to Gamestop but finds that it is not for sale because gamestop does not share the same philosophy ($$$) as/with microsoft. After a 50 mil drive, he finds a walmart and IT is for sale (because honestly what the hell do they NOT sale?) Buys three games, hooks up his system, but cannot play a single game... no internet...what then?

My question to you jay is what does our blissful idiot does then? Does he go to the comcast store and sets up internet at his house... or just goes back to walmart and returns his purchase?

I wonder if the TV ads will state that an internet connection is REQUIRED for the system??... I wonder

This blissfull idiot returns to Walmart and buys a console that's more suitable for a person like him. There, problem solved, and he learned a valuable lesson from this experience as well: Do a little research before you blow $500 on a fancy new toy.
