Yea i think they ARE!!

like the 3ds was out of the race? |
First off; the 3DS never had anyone to race against, let alone two generations at once, and secondly; I've written so many posts on the differences of the 3DS and Wii U situation, I simply can't be arsed to do it again.
I could dig up a previous post if you insist though, the comparison is straight up silly and holds no merit.
I also find it somewhat strange that you chose one sentence out of the whole post to get hung up on and left out the rest.

Some of the things that helped Sony to dominate they aren't even doing anymore. Timed exclusives (i.e. GTA on PS2) seem to be a thing of the past save for timed-exclusive DLC, and they seem to be a practice heavily adopted by one of the rival console manufacturers. Advertising isn't as good as it was during the PS1 or PS2 era, in my opinion. The Sony adverts last holiday in the UK were pretty lame (Wonderbook/Family Fun/Vita). Nothing close to stuff like "PS9" or "double life". I mean yeah, those were abstract and didn't actually show any gameplay... but they damn well stuck in your mind. Closest I remember Sony getting is "the world is in play" advert they had for Vita when it launched. I do, however, think Sony can end up doing well for themselves this generation. And I personally think that as a manufacturer/software developer they're in a much better place than they've ever been with multiple talented teams expanding so much that they break off into two. |
Good points. Sony's currently doing many things right, but for every company many things exist that are beyond their control and others that they control but unexplainably do wrong (like some incredibly bad Sony and MS ads, or Nintendo killing Wii too early). A good start is a good start, but it isn't a warranty. A bad start of the competitors, though, is always an advantage, but Sony must not waste it.
Edit: BTW, 7th gen is a surprising example of this thing happening not just once, but twice (first MS throwing away its head start, then Nintendo wasting the huge lead it managed to gain in a very short time): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_the_handicap_of_a_head_start

bolded 1: so NOW the comments about 3ds being outsold by ds an psp didn't exist? and vita isn't from 3ds generation? what generation is it then?
let me tell the similarities straight: Both 3ds and wii u were selling bad at a time neither had system selling games. that means their sales from that period are irrelevant to judge the consoles sucess. Also in both cases, haters kept saying when vita/ps4/xone are released they wouldn't stand a chance since they were already struggling without competition, then the 3ds proved all the crap wrong. vita got released and didn't affect 3ds sales wich went skyhigh thanks to (omg who would have guessed) GAMES.
Wii u is getting it's games this second half of 2013 as the expensive competition comes. I bet on wii u on that fight.
No.
More than just games to me.
I am tied to Xbox Live in as much as its amazing services.
Sony need alot more than games for me to choose just them.

I know it is a small sample size but I know 4 other people besides myself buying an Xbox One and 1 buying a PS4 and Xbox One (sorry WiiU). We are adults though and we embrace the digital era. I believe PS4 will sell well in the US but don't be surprised to see Xbox One double PS4 sales here. On the other hand PS4 will sell much better in the rest of the world except for possibly the UK and certain parts of Europe. |
Im from the US too, and i would ask please dont bring that US nonsense here. Its embarassing to the rest of your country men/women. My friends and i are adults and we see the BS MS is trying to do and none of them are buying that new Xbox. NONE out of the ten people i know, actually one of them is considering it. And really what does it matter if MS sells more in the US or not, wont mean nothing if they do horribly everywhere else. US is big but not that big. Hell just look at the home page.
OT, their not recovering anything, its just that the other two are not doing to great so it only makes them look better, kinda pathetic when you think about it.
Guys, now with Sony having multiple prices for the PS4 with one worth 399, will it increase sales unlike the Xbox one which has a fixed high price of 500 bucks
M$ will do better out the gate. It's called advertising and M$ has more $$$ to spend on that. Notice how their conference was on TV and Sony's isn't?
When the launch hype is long dead and word of mouth starts to drive most of the sales ps4 will probably catch and win. It all depends on how much market-share M$ can hold in the US/UK/Australia over Sony because the ps4 will win handily everywhere else especially since all the TV functions of the xbox will be useless outside the U.S.
Don't believe me? Just watch...

Price will also play a factor. If PS4 launches at a competitve price, it will be a tight race out of the gate and Sony may even take more markets. |
ps4 will launch at $499 as well. Anything below $450 and sony is dumb as a bag of rocks. Sometimes being too cheap creates the perception that you're selling junk not that you giving something of value except ps4 exclusives can show superiority out the gate which I doubt. Remember the cheap GC? EVeryone thought it was a weaker console when it was more powerful than the PS2.
Profit is also important for Sony as well right now. If they dont have a subscription service, it is even more imperative that they stick to $499 as only the hardest of the hardcore get launch consoles anyway and M$ has XBL gold to generate even more funds.
