When Sony announced that the PlayStation 4 wasn't going to be backwards compatible or allow you to download current PlayStation Network titles, DC Universe Online players freaked out. Had the hours spent creating heroes and villains in the MMO been a waste?

Today, Sony Online Entertainment has an answer: no. DC Universe Online is coming to the PlayStation 4 -- and so is Planetside 2, the first-person shooter MMO currently available for PC.

Seeing as how we don't know when the PS4 will be released, SOE kept the release dates for DCUO and Planetside 2 loose and simply said the PS4 versions will be available as free-to-play digital downloads this year.

If you already thought that Planetside 2 was headed to the PS4, it's probably because you caught Up at Noon six months ago when a developer pretty much confirmed the team was working on a next-gen version.

Thats is great! Hopefully they will enhance DCUO for the PS4 hardware so that it can look better :D

Seems like a waste when they could make new, better games. I wonder if square will do the same with FFXIVAAR.

I guess with the architectures the new consoles use, these will be easy ports of the PC versions.

i believe they should have atleast one of these games pre-installed in the PS4 harddrive. that way it seems like they are giving away an extra game and more people would end up playing the game which would increase money from microtransitions and such

Im a raging fanboy i guess, but you cannot deny the awesomeness of this news. Aslo Everquest Next is said to be revealed and demo at SOE live this august. Ill rip off my left nut if it is not confirmed for ps4 then. omg omg omg.

Why would this be an issue? Sure PS4 isn't BC with PS3 but tis also x86 based as are the PC versions of those games. They are just simply giving you the PC version ported over.
Guess its something for single console owners to be happy over but it'll take more than late ports to impress most people especially if Sony is just going to copy what is already on PC anyway I might as well just stick with a PC to begin with. A 3 year old port of DCUO is good and people will rush out spend 600.00 to access a game they already can for free on PC, but a 6 month old port of Batman on Wii u is disaster and proof the console is last gen. Single console owner logic. I'll never get it.

i have no interest in DCUO but planetside looked pretty good.
