omg, what are these people drinking?

What?

Nintendo sells the standalone Pad in Japan close to $190... that the retail price... the replace using the warranty plus giving the old Pad is $85 in US.

Yeah... the Pad is funcking expensive... Wii U is sold at loss due that component.

wrong, and the price it is sold separetely is irrelevant. nintendo could sell the controller at $1000 and it would be just as obvious that it costs a MAXIMUN of $70 to manufacture.

I agree with this, the Wii U's Pad could retail for $80 bucks, and they would break even. Controllers are always sold at a high profit margin. I don't know what gives people the impression that the GamePad is so expensive when it's filled with ancient tech.

OT: I don't see how these consoles could retail for anything under $425 without taking a loss. If they want to match the Wii U price point, they'll come out better having a monthly subscription plan.

Why is everybody assuming that Sony and MS won't take losses ?

To my knowledge every console by Sony/MS have sold at a loss, obviosly they wont want to take a PS3 size loss but 50-100 loss per unit sounds reasonable to me. I doubt we will see a $349 priced console unless its severely gimped but $399 I think is possible with a $449-499 premium sku.

If they want their consoles to be competitive in the market, they will need to take losses.

$399 will probably be the price of both consoles.  But I wouldn't doubt the possibility of  Sony or MS making cheaper consoles without the BD drive for exemple.

true, it's simple math: the gamepad is a 3ds without cpu, gpu and RAM, as well as having a cheaper non 3d screen. we all know that cpu, gpu and ram add to half or more of the BOM. So if 3ds could be selling at $160 at a small profit, a gamepad can retail for $80.

So they were wrong about the Box let's see what happens with the Station.

Go Team Venture! I still don't get the Wii, PS Move,  and Kinect.

Way off with Xbox, don't they just make wild guesses!?

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

With all the money Microsoft is throwing around for this console to succeed, there is no chance their cost of materials are anywhere near as low as this is saying. I can't imagine they are making any profit at all on hardware.
