by controller I mean the gamepad. That thing as cool as it is to play of screen looks like it was a huge trade of for them on what they could put in the console itself. oh well, looks like it will be a multi console gen for me again haha. PS4, Wii U and maybe XBOX one when more is know. TBH PC gaming to me is starting to look more and more attractive but some of the best franchises are on console only lol.

lol my mistake... I mean memory controller... sorry.... yeah the controller (pad) is expensive.

Was already confirmed the APU's will only cost $60 - $100 per chip by AMD.

I'd  be interested to see the source of that quote. Over the lifetime of the APU, maybe right. Initial costs are much, much higher.

Question for everyone: what should the Wi U retail price be on a long term basis ( I only include the premium Wii U - I don t really count the other model as there is no reason to buy it)

IMO The Wii U should be $275 unless both XB1 and PS4 come in much higher than anticipated

for the record I bought a Wii U for my son at launch-

The Wii U deluxe should remove Nintendo Land from the package and sell for 300 dollars, that will make it look more attractive and competitive during the holiday season, since I think both PS4 and Xbox One will cost around 400-450 dollars.

I think the initial cost is less than that... of couse all depends of the % of GOOD chips.

The HD 6970 GPU chip costed $85... 380mm² in 40nm... 28nm is cheaper than 40nm.

I dont know seems low to me.

Look at the WiiU, Nintendo claimed it was sold at a loss. Surely if those prices are accurate Nintendo would have beefed up their specs to match a bit closer to (ie 4gb of ram at least and an APU like the other two). Or was that controller REALLY that expensive for them?

No... the controller is not that expensive.

And Nintendo issue with cost lies in the Pad... not the console itself...  I guess without the Pad Nintendo can sell the Wii U at $200 without loss... I guess over $150 of the cost come from the Pad.

omg, what are these people drinking?

Seems right to me...

People dont seem to realise how cheap AMD's solutions are.

People don't seem to realise how expensive brand new, complex chips are in the first batches. Those BOM are laughable at best, but since it is Pachter, we knew that before already.

What?

Nintendo sells the standalone Pad in Japan close to $190... that the retail price... the replace using the warranty plus giving the old Pad is $85 in US.

Yeah... the Pad is funcking expensive... Wii U is sold at loss due that component.

I'm with you Shinobi-san... AMD chips are cheaper but MS is having some trouble with the additional units and cache put into the chip... MS make the chip complex.

The PS4 chip instead is a standard AMD chepear APU with a more powerful GPU.
