Also, you must not have played the recent Pokemon games. Because it's changed, and people obviously don't like it.

What did they change? You can now select between a fire, water and plant pokémon in the beginning and your rival has the nerve to pick the pokémon that is superior to yours?

Do you seriously expect me to list them all in a thread that isn't even about Pokemon?

Also, it's grass-type, not plant-type.

Yes, I do expect you to list all of those changes.

Keep in mind that there is a difference between making changes in order to improve a formula (like PM:TTYD was to Paper Mario) and changes to turn an IP into something else.

And yes, that means you don't have to list anything at all, because there is nothing to list.

Well, then you've practically stopped me in my tracks.

Still, I used it merely as an example in that change (to any extent, even if it doesn't change an IP) can push people away from a series.

That was supposed to be taken as a joke... SPM wasn't bad either, it just wasn't good. There, that makes perfect sense.

I think the main thing that people don't seem to get is that maybe, just maybe, Nintendo wanted to take the Paper Mario series in a different direction. And that's a mission they obviously succeded in. Maybe this is the samething that happened to Pokemon; early adopters of the series just can't understand why the series had to change, whilst the "newer" adopters enjoy the change.

Not sure about that success. Keeping Paper Mario as the simple, straightforward RPG with enough depth could have led to better sales and certainly a more solid fanbase for future titles.

Also, Pokémon changed? That has to be a joke.

Sad thing is they'll probably look at the sales and think "people love this, let's continue". I may not like it personally, but the series has increased in sales with SPM, and even more with PM:SS.

Now that's a scary thought. If that were to be the case, then sadly I'd have to ditch the PM franchise and go with Mario & Luigi only from now on to get my Mario RPG fix. Surely that wont happen though, right Nintendo... right?

If they thought that way, then Sticker Star would have been like Super Paper Mario. Sales didn't increase with Sticker Star, but maybe you are talking about launch aligned. In any case, I don't think SS will sell more SPM.

Good.
