A 3D Mario made by Double Fine! This guys made an incredible good job on Psychonauts (a 3D platformer), so they have experience in this type of games. Almost everything they make is good so a 3D Mario will be no exception.

well my favorite game is Final Fantasy X and the only other guys i would trust with that game is the Final Fantasy XII guys (or really any FF dev team). but if i must leave Squaresoft/SQEX maybe Monolith or tri-ace. idk man thats hard.

Hmm, not exactly what was asked in your OP, but the next mainline Metroid by Bioware would be interesting. The Metroid: Zero Mission manga, Metroid Fusion and Metroid Other M already hinted towards some dark secrets in the Galactic Confederation. It would be really interesting to see how Bioware would continue the plot from there^^
