PS3 vs Xbox 360. Graphical Horsepower.

I will admit it, PS3 exclusives do look better than Xbox 360 exclusives.

Not that we were waiting for you. Known Fact.

Whoever was responsible for the engine that powered most of the PS3 exclusives did a damn fine job.

No shit. Imagine what they can do on PS4.

That engine utilizes the PS3's full potential and is a well balanced engine.

Umm-huh.

Now, the Xbox 360 did not utilize such an engine as it internally developed for the PS3.

Microsoft chose to go with the Unreal Engine 3 to power it's games.

Now while Unreal 3 games look great, I prefer the engine that is used for the PS3 as colors pop more and the set pieces look larger.

I don't know if anyone agree's with me on this.

Again, known facts, very clear to anyone's eyes.

The point I am making is that it is due to the engine, not technical power.

It's half programming, half technical, actually.

The only thing I can say is that if the PS3 is more powerful, why do multiplatform games perform better on Xbox 360?

Because it's also (a known fact), PS3 is a total mess to program for and doesn't work as well for Unreal 3 games.

After 5 years you would think developers would have a grip on the PS3's architecture. I don't think it is a matter of developers are

making the games for Xbox 360 and holding the PS3 back. If that was the case PS3 multiplatform games would at least be on par

with Xbox 360 games, which is not the case to this day.

Many multiplats do look on par with 360 versions, what are you on? Lots of them, and this isn't new, so stop stating what is your opinion as fact since you obviously haven't played many multiplats on both platforms or you're rather poorly informed.

I disagree. I don't think any PS3 game looks better than Halo 4.

You also gotta take scale into consideration. For example, Halo 4 has a huge maps with a lot of enemies out at once. While Uncharted games are basically small linear areas.

Ok, so?

I don't think any console games looks better than God of War 3 (yeah, not even Ascension).  But you're going to tell me I'm wrong because the game is more linear than Halo 4, which allows it to not have as many blurry textures and simplistic geometry?

God of War games also use a fixed camera. Halo 4 has large areas you can more feely explore in first person.

Indeed, the technical needs of both games are different. That doesn't make any difference.

Eh Cell processor+RSX>whatever was in the 360, thats a fact. Engines ofcourse played a role, but God of War 3 uses the same engine as GoW1.

I don't think anyone disputes the fact that the PS3's theoretical performance is greater than the 360.
But a new generation of consoles is about to launch and even after all these years the extra theoretical performance that the PS3 has, basically accounted for nothing.

Not really.

Xenos(360 GPU) > RSX

Cell > Xenon(360 CPU).

In the end, the difference in performance between these two consoles is negligible.

I find that Halo 4 matches any PS3 exclusive, Gears of Wars 3 is pretty close also. No doubt that Sony invested a lot more into engines than MS, though.

Agreed, though with Last of Us and others soon to release it could be different. I doubt the jump from Uncharted, (2 or 3 depending on taste) to TLoU will be too big though.

Sigh, read my post again: RSX+Cell>360 CPU+GPU, I didnt claim RSX>Xenos, I'm well aware of the fact that Xenos is better than the RSX. The PS3 has around 400gflops(180 rsx, 220 cell), 360 has around 300-320(xenos 240gflop+cpu 70gflop ) thus RSX+Cell>360 CPU+GPU

Next time READ.

It's very simple, the PS3 is more powerful hence why PS3 exclusives look better

It is however difficult to get the best out of the console because of its design, hence multiplatform development is not as easy with the PS3 which means that lazy developers produced games that looked worse.

Sony doesn't use the same engine for every game, but the ICE development team (kind of part of Naughty Dog, in the same building at least) does help out with PS3 development and they do share certain things
