500k ist much more than I expected. Why is SSBB so much more popular than SMG in Japan?
I never played a Smash brodsgame and I'm still not sure if I will buy SSBB. Maybe I'm the only one...

Super Smash Bros. is excellent. Ever since the 64, there have been great SSB games. If Brawl is half as good as Melle was, then it would be a five-star game. You have to buy it.

^yep - totally agree - a classic game that will always sell - no matter the ratings

Just as I thought, this has sold incredibly! America numbers will dwarf these though.

Really, this is not a surprise. In terms of anticipation, only Halo 3 stands well above Brawl (MGS4 and FFXIII likely stand just around Brawl).

What is nice is that gamers still remembered the other systems. DMC4 had great openings for both its systems, and Desgaea 3 opened pretty strong for a cult game.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

^well, the DMC4 launch was overshadowed by SSBB

its not enough! >_<

Not enough? Hahahhahah, that's a joke..right? :P

I'm happy that this game sold so well! But that's 500 thousand people that are playing the game while I have to wait....not fair.

Oh well my friend has a Japanese Wii and he's getting the game next week. I can't wait.

it should have been 700k thats what i predicted.

You predicted 700k? Wow, that's really high. Do you happen to know what the highest number is for first day sales in Japan? As far as I know SSBB holds it, or comes pretty close. There's probably some FF game that sold a million in one day or something though...those FF games sell like porn in Japan. :P

I bet the game could have sold 700k in it's first day if Nintendo had supplied enough games. I guess they were cautious since what happened with SMG.
