Forums - Sony - Sony promote ex Apple men in bid to improve mobile.

Good thing. Even janitors at Apple are executive material.

I guess only good things can come from this. Sony doesn't need to catch up to Apple or Samsung, in fact that may be impossible. All they need to do is create an an alternative to the iPhone and Galaxy.

Sony needs to release their Smart Phones to more carriers. I liked what I saw in the new line of Xperia Smart phones, but could not buy one (at least could not buy one under contract).

it is all about mar-ke-ting....

sounds easy? no!

Not so sure about Shaaf's pedigree having read it further and he left apple in 2005, so the link in this story is a bit odd seeing as the iphone launched in 2007.

Harada seems a bit more innovative though, but he left Apple in 2004 too.

Seems a strange headline now.

Apple brand is now so powerful that companies feel a need to buy Apple executives just to be cool and impress their friends, even if those execs are overpriced and outdated.

Sony could try to carve out their own spot. I think the upper high end is a good choice since iPhone is now just considered high-end.
They shouldn't go head-on against Samsung since they can't beat them at pricing.

It's all really depends on marketing and carving our their own space. Brand image is everything in North America.

True that.  I want the xperia z but no one is carrying it.  I'm not paying almost $700 for the unlocked model.

Damn you!!  It looks so awesome.  There are rumors they have a new xperia coming out this holiday so maybe a carrier in the US will have it.

Doubtful.  The last "attempt" was the Play (I bought one and loved it for what it was for....playing PS1 games with a controller.  Was a terrible phone though!)  and it didnt do very well at all.
