Forums - Microsoft - What if Microsoft enable any windows 8 table to be used at tablet controller?

They could release a controller mount and allows a tablet to mount on top of the controller.

Since X1 is running on a modified Windows 8, it should easily be made compatible with a Windows 8 tablet.

So, we will end up with all 3 consoles having "remote play" this gen.

This is a bit of an obvious next step for MS.

I also doubt they'd introduce a holder to put on top of the controller. It would make it top heavy and just awkward to hold.... Maybe.

If they do, it'll be exactly as big as any other expensive peripheral that doesn't come bundled with the hardware.

Not enough people have it, so no devs make games that requier it/are built around it, so no-one has any reason to buy it.

Happened with, GBA link cable, PSP connectivity and a lot of others. And a tablet is a lot more expensive than most of the existing options that failed.

It doesn't need to be a specific tablet. You will be able to use an ipad or galaxy tab or surface. Probably even a cheap £75 chinese android will be good enough. A lot of people already have these so it wouldn't be a case of making it work and hoping people buy the peripheral.

did you actually read the thread? are you aware of the direction MS has already taken.

This isnt about propriety add ons.

Did you actually read my post?

Think about the number of X360 owners who own a tablet? 20% Maybe? Lets err on the side of caution and assume it's 99%. Are devs going to make games that 99% of people can play, or 100%?

If MS allow any W8 tablet to work with the X1, MS will be able to have remote play, but they won't actually be able to do anything interesting or unique with the tablet controllers, because developers will not make games that benefit from remote play, because it would alienate the users that don't have a tablet.

As for mistershine's point that you "only" need a 75 quid tablet to use this feature, that is a huge fraction of the cost of a console.

Think about the number tablets get bought every year? And the sales are still increasing. In Germany people bought 4 million tablets last year - this is way more than consoles sold.

To me it is like remote play - it's an option but the chances are higher you have an android-, wp- or ios-device than a vita which does nothing interesting or unique, too.

And think about how many ps3-users or ps4-users will have a vita...

It seems like the logical progression, and it's certainly one of which has been rumoured before to happen in the past. So it seems likely, however, without making the compatibility mandatory I fear it may not be utilised to its fullest.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

When i first read this title i mistook it for any window.....as in the kitchen window, the one in your room etc. Than the only thing i was thinking of after is you better not have a ball park around your house.
