Forums - Sony - PS4 developer: Sony mandates Vita Remote Play for all games

This is quite good news, although expected. There are details to be worked out, such as can I play anywhere in the world or just in my house?

I don't see a reason why it shouldn't work over internet, with some more input lag ofcourse.

Well lag is the problem

Remote play is mostly automatic and done by dedicated hardware, so developers won't have much work to do. The thing Sony is mandating is for developers to provide an alternative controller scheme for the Vita if their game uses L2/3 and R2/3 buttons which the Vita lacks.

They already have alternate controllschemes for those buttens for the ps3 remote-play games. I'm sure they could just use those.

Well lag is the problem

depends on the genre you are playing

I've tried some demos over gaikai when it was still up and there wasn't much problems with playing Alen Wake or Dirt 2 that way, although these are more input lag sensitive genres. Turn based games ofcourse are the best case scenario though.

Dont be daft trophies are mandated and devs dont argue about having to do that. And remote play is far simpler to setup, ive done it for PSP and its just literally ticking a tick box to say you support it and making sure you remap the keys when your in remote play mode, what with the L2 and R2 not being there, at least with vita you can just remap those to rear touch.

There is no separate assets or rendering modes. PS3 did it all for you, but it did take SPU time at least with PS4 there is a separate hardware video encoding chip so it wont affect your game speed at all.

Good. Vita needs it, and things like this only work when you force them through for the vast majority of games.

Nobody is going to buy a vita to remove play maybe 1/3rd of their games if they check a compatibly list.

Considering the spec similarities with the Xbox One, it shouldn't cost them much, if any games.

Didn't think Sony would be stupid enough to do this looks like I might have been wrong.

Why stupid? It's a built in hardwarefeature. I don't think it's gonna cuase devs all that much trouble to do it.

Adding trophies or something is probably more work than this.

Because it adds to the cost of developing games anything that adds cost is another reason not develop for that console, you want good will with people making games that will sell your console not piss them off.

as far as we know... sony only requires a vita control scheme (because Vita don't have L2 R2) in addition to the normal game submission for release in the platform. until we know more, your developing cost argument is BS.

now... even if that does cost some kind of money to implement. lets do math... lets say, 3rd party dev has a game idea, 20millions put that idea into game form in PC, 1 million to port to XB and 1.1 (added 0.1 because of vita just to make you happy) to port to PS4. lets say xb one and ps4 have the same install base of 5 million consoles. you talk like is worth ignoring half the potential costumers just because the small addition to dev costs. you still think you are right? (all these numbers are made up but still are a very well possible scenario so don't give me that argument)

also MS has kinect and Wii U has that controller, sure they do not mandate (we still do not know nothing about MS is this matter), but aren't those in every console? will or will not be pushed to be used by devs? does those add cost to implement? is this the same as previous generations with proprietary peripherals? all yes answers and obvious no answer to the question above is the reasonable thing to think...

Proudest Platinums - BF: Bad Company, Killzone 2 , Battlefield 3 and GTA4

I thought this was given, considering it's built-in hardware feature, so not sure what are they mandating exactly.

The devs cant even make some wiiu games offer off tv play and they want to force a different console as a controller? xD The vita also has 2 button less compared to the dualshock 3

But it has a rear touch pad so can easily cope
