I guess the definition of games working vs being enjoyable and played as they are meant to can be argued here. I played Dead rising on xbox 360 on a 32 inch SD TV while I was at my friends cottage for a week. It wasn't nearly as fun as it was on my HDTv at home.

We don't know yet for sure since we don't know what will be available without internet, but similar situation may be applied about next gen games and internet.

You will deffinetly not have as much fun without internet, but this may come with reduced content available and not lack of visual stimulation in the SD vs HD debate last gen. People buckled down and bought HGTV's throughout last gen... so wouldn't it be fair to say that it may time to buckle down and get high speed internet durring this gen?

but we do.  the question was directly asked.

Yeah I saw this... the thing is it really doesn't fully explain what he means. It just isn't clear.

It could mean that most games will be designed with online in mind and that single player campaigns are no longer guaranteed. He may have been carfuly choosing his words since not all games will have single player. So saying games will work may be not true... I firmly believe that something like a Gears of War campaign will fully work offline with single player... once a game is activated lol

You really can't compare buying an hd tv (product) with paying for internet (service).

On a definition term basis you're absolutely right. they are 2 different things.

However on where our society and economy is at today VS back in 2005, I think they are comparable. Services are essentially the new products these days. Products tend to be free even but the tie in service is what you end up paying for...

Internet service has gotten much better in the US over the past 8 years (of course).  This is not necessarily true in other places in the world which was what i was eluding to.  The quality and even access of internet lags behind in low population or underdeveloped areas.

Stop the presses! Marketing has just been re-invented by disolitude. Lets write new books and manuals because it all changed... or not. A product and a service are vastly different things, wich you seem to be mixing up with customer relationship.

Sorry, but youre talking nonsense.

He does this frequently

Sony is definitely in a hard spot atm.

If Sony refuses to implement system wide drm, publishers can always implement it themselves: online activation via product key, online checks when starting the game. And you'll end up with an EA account, Ubisoft account, etc. In that case Microsofts' system wide drm system suddenly starts looking better, offering easier installation and at least some, albeit mutilated, form of second hand sales.

Of course those publishers might think twice. They'll obviously be excluding offline console users, and it will give others, like CDProjekt, a chance to steal the spotlight.

It looks to be a game of chicken at the moment.

There will be no online checks if it happens.

and there would be no point in adding it if the devs are getting money from the used games.

If this rumor is true that they have DRM on the PS4 and are reconsidering, then Sony is in a predicament.

Do they renege on the DRM and piss off 3rd parties and possibly end up with WiiU level of 3rd party support. They might get worse backlash from 3rd parties than Nintendo for this.

Or do they stay the course and hope that consumers come around to the new DRM, and not piss off 3rd parties to keep getting support.

I think from a business stand point they should just stay the course and see if people cool down on the DRM issue, which I think will smooth over easier if both Sony and MS are implementing the same thing. I don't think Sony is willing to shit all over 3rd parties to quell some internet fanatics.

Either way Sony has some tough choices ahead if all this is true.

Shitting on 3rd parties?

They would be shitting on gamers!

3rd parties actually sell on PlayStation. They wont pull support from THE CREATOR of this market

3rd parties jumped ship from Nintendo when PS released, what makes you think they wouldn't do the same to Sony?

I bet you that when 3rd parties ditched Nintendo back in the day, people said that they wouldnt pull support from the SAVIORS of the gaming market.
